Notes
Originally released in 1991 by Caroline Records in the US, Hut Records in the UK. In late 1994, the album was slightly remastered and subsequently re-released under the Virgin banner with an accompanying re-release on Hut. This was not highly publicized, and is hardly noticeable. Musically, the remastered version has a better sound, the bass and the drums are louder. The easiest way to differentiate between the two releases is to check the label on the spine. Other differences include the CD color (original pressing: purple with picture, Remastered: Virgin - purple with no picture, Hut - red), and publishing credits (original: Copyright Control, remastered: Cinderful Music/Cellophane Music). The new LPs have the word "Remastered" under the bar code. "I Am One" and "Tristessa" were re-recorded for inclusion on this album. Vocals on "Daydream" are by D'arcy. There is a short mystery track after "Daydream", which Billy Corgan identified as "I'm Going Crazy" in a 1996 interview. (2/3/96 - KROQ Los Angeles) The Japanese CD release has a white CD inlay, and an 18 page booklet including full Japanese and English lyrics of all songs on Gish along with 5 pages with Japanese writings (presumably about the band) by Mr. Hiro Arishima, dated 22 July 1991 and 28 April 1994. There is some confusion on the release order of various pressings of this album. It is known that the initial batch was done in Germany because it was where it could be produced the cheapest (CARCD16/CARLP2). Later they were pressed by Hut (HUTCD/HUTLP/HUTCS), presumably at the time of the UK release. At some point before the release of the remastered version, there was a US pressing of the album (CAROL), but it is unclear when this was produced. The PO Box listed for the fan club has the wrong box number: box 587010 (as opposed to box 578010 in SD and PI). This was corrected on the remastered version.
