Music - Quiet and Other Songs do you have any idea how long ive been waiting for the fabled song called 'tulips' to be released?! OMFG... now i can die in my sleep happily ever after. Thank you for posting this and good night. Be Blissed~
Contest - 1ST PLACE: Set the Ray to Jerry by The iOs (Video by James Hori) song is from the iO's and can be found on the ghost children 2: friends and enemies- a tribute to sp. found here, http://www.act4.net/ghostchildren2.htm
News - Listen To All Of Zeitgeist Now i've heard the album about 3 times completely and have maybe 4 favorites. the others i'm forcing myself to like. i figure if i'm to be any kind of fan or supporter, i've got to like smashing pumpkins, right? well this album is about as painful to listen to as hitting your hand with a hammer. it seems like a good idea at the time, but it just hurts at the end. everyone thought adore was the pumpkins failure album. (which is quite possibly my favorite with emotional attachment towards) but this album is actually better than his solo work. his solo work wasn't great either, but it was a step in a creative and different direction. this album took two steps away from that direction and found nothing worth saying. what billy and a lot of bands that try to do is come out with some hard rocking album with a lot of great songs. when you consider what a great song is, you tend to stay on that track and follow that trend. billy, at times goes against the trend and comes out with something beautiful. i guess from a musical point of view, this album is a fluff of sounds from over produced guitar sounds and over used effects. take for example, today. why was it a hit? it may not be your favorite song, but it's a hit because of the simplicity and it's main lead guitar. another song to give this example would be mayonaise, not a very popular song in main stream media (mtv, vh1 or whatever) but it has a certain luster. when you hear the guitars first come in, you know instantly what song it is and you can be pulled back to the first time you heard it. this simplicity or combination of guitars are a result of creative process known as jamming. billy without james iha is like john frusciante without flea. (red hot chili peppers if you don't already know) how to remedy this? i think billy works best when he's under constraints. when he is just, that rat in a cage. he needs a producer to tell him "no" and he needs band mates to give him input. he's going off on a tangent and might lose a lot of fans this way. he needs all the support he can get and putting out an album that will flop really isn't getting us a fans any where except expecting more from the smashing pumpkins and more out of billy. i think james might have known what was going on and made the right decision by staying out of this.

Cover Song - Cherry (nikoz) the feel was pumpkins if thats what you were going for. i especially liked the effects played in the background. very machina though, not mellon collie. i have to disagree spaceboy90's critiue on the whole high pitch then going lower pitch during the chorus. it was a great attempt in the song. the only thing i have to complain about is the lack of singing talent, but that's not what i like discussing. it was a fair attempt, played nicely and the drums dodnt sound all that bad for a drum machine or what ever program you were using. good job in general. if i were to redo this song, i'd get a girl to sing this song with you to do the highs. (i'm thinking of a duet like "...said sadly" in mind) i enjoyed that the bass was dominant in the song, not muffled out at all... but then again many might not like that sort of thing.

Caption Contest - Contest 39 Billy: "I don't think that prank emergency fire bit was a good idea jimmy." Jimmy: "Yeah, I don't think they're coming back."
Cover Song - Zero (acoustic) (thegreatwasabi) great take on this song. changing it and making it your own was a great way to make this something other than a weak cover of a song. the singing was alright, in the sense it had the feel, just not the definition. i would have preferred to hear a female voice do this, or maybe a female voice do the accent on certain lyrics, and the "she the one for me" part. though that might have been too cliché. best rendition of a song i've heard yet!
Cover Song - Here Is No Why (SeanMc) the guitar was sloppy, the effects were a bad choice, the vocals would have been great if you could here them from behind the bad playing. no hate for the artist, this song is just hard as t-rex shit to play live. just keep playing and improve with every recording. thats how you grow.
Cover Song - 1979 (orbital58) i agree this was a great cover, greatly mixed, greatly played, but i feel it was too many things clashing together on this one. the drums were too synthetic, which isn't a bad thing. i just felt that it seemed to take away from the clean guitar and the voice. it almost made it seem like it was going to take a turn for an electronic-pop feel, dare i say "techno". i'm not bashing this artist (or the whole group?) i'm not implying that this is horrible, because i've listened to it like 5 times writing this. it's terrific, amazing even! i just think the deep base for the drums is what kind of throws it off for me. had i been the professor, i would have still given you an "A" but would have questioned the approach. all in all, a very great recording/mixing job and a great take on a pumpkins classic. it feels weird calling 1979 classic, or am i (we) just getting old?
Cover Song - Starla (thisfoolyoulovesomehow) That was me by the way.
Cover Song - Starla (thisfoolyoulovesomehow) effects are pretty good, even the repetative ambient noice in the back is kind of nice (but does get a bit annoying at times) the drumms are a bit too clean for the song. i really enjoyed the fact that the guitar was used for the voicing instead of having some adolecent kid butcher the song. i wish the bongos would have made it on the track about midpoint, that's like the part everyone wants. lol the solo near the end is pretty fucking nice though, even the effects complement it very nicely. but still the drumms were what kept this from being a powerful take on this song. it just seemed that the song was being taken off to a new limit near the end, but the drummer (i know its a drum machine) was just doing his part, almost falling asleep behind the toms. all in all, i thought this was a pretty good take on the song. i know i'm the first one to post on this, but anyone that puts this down doesn't appreciate music, or knows how to critique atleast. well done "thisfoolyoulovesomehow"! (oh yeah, p.s., no police sirens in the background? i'm just joshing ya)
