Yeah thats cool, i really recomend that you listen to some more stuff from the early 90's and mid to late 80's. I have found that some of the early grunge stuff like Nirvana, Sonic Youth, jaynes addiction, the cure, soundgarden, plus many others, to be very good. But im not saying that all modern music is rubish. The UK has some really good music nowdays, like Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, Razorlight, Placebo, and of coase Muse, the best live act in the uk.
I'd have to agree with you on the UK music scene. I don't really listen to modern music anymore, and the only bands that I do listen to that are modern are from the UK, with Muse topping the list. They are just simply absolutely amazing. They have got to be one of the best bands that has come out in awhile. I have seen them twice live and they put on a kick ass show. Their new material that's leaked sounds brilliant, and I can't wait to see them in concert later this year.
As for how I became a SP fan? Well...let's see. Like someone said previously, I was getting sick of the bullshit that was being played, during 2003, I started to look to good, solid rock bands to listen to. It started with Nirvana, and then I got more interested in the early 90's rock. I was shopping at a Best Buy and came across the SP Rotten Apples (greatest hits cd) and I just bought it, without knowing too much about them, just knowing some of the 'hit' songs. I fell in love with all the songs, went out and bought all their records, and that was about it.

This may sound dumb, but getting into SP was a life-changing experience for me. I couldn't imagine my life without them and their music.

Zero was all over the radio, new at the time. it was the only song I knew by the band. I was going with this girl named Amanda. she did something
that put us on the outs. I can't remember what she did. but to get back she came at me with two tickets to the pumpkins at the palace of Auburn hills. so the first time I listened to more than one pumpkin song in a row it was live in concert. needless to say I was hooked.

It happened when I first heard 1979 on the radio.
And the rest is history.

Same here! Ever since I discovered them, I have literally thought about The Smashing Pumpkins every day. I've had dreams about Billy Corgan (I don't know what I could say to make this seem less creepy than it sounds, but...well yeah, it is creepy. But I bet you have too!). It's gotten to the point that I wish I wouldn't replay their songs in my head, because I don't want them to become stale, and I've considered going on an SP "diet"--and I've really been trying to discover new bands to love, so that I can have something new in my head...but so far, no success. I love them too much!

I actually became an SP fan by complete chance.
I live in a country where we don't get much good radio. We have one English rock station and they play pretty much only pop music, so we never really had the radio on as a kid.
My father went on a business trip a couple of years ago and came back with gifts. I've always been the huge music geek in our family, so naturally, I got a CD.
"Hey, Alyssa, you like the Smashing Pumpkins, right?"
It was Rotten Apples.
It was love.

I became a fan thru music tv. I saw 1979 on Kerrang, and I just loved it, I went about downloading all I could off of Limewire and then I boght Machina and Adore, from there I bought everything I could find, I only have to get Siamese Dream, Rotten Apples and Gish now, funny really that I got Piecies Iscariot and a CD I found at a carboot sale called Ultra Rare Trax before SD... meh.

I had heard a few songs (Cherub Rock and Disarm) before MCIS came out. When I started dating my husband in 1995, we use to listen to lots of music together, most of it his. I remember if I got to pick from his CDs I would pick SP (sometimes Toadies, AIC, STP etc.) Before that I was into mostly older rock and Beck. The more I listened, the more I wanted to hear more. I went and got Gish and we had MCIS and SD. But, the day I became "obsessed" (if you want to call it that) was on November 20, 1996 at their concert in Nashville, Tennessee during the song Disarm. Everyone had their lighters going. It was just beautiful because I could see how personal that song was for BC, and it touched me deeply. What Billy is made of, that is what makes his music. His experiences make him, and he is not afraid to open it up for everyone to see. Not to mention that my daughter was conceived on the same day as this concert. She is almost 9 now. My husband and I have been together for almost 11 years. My husband cannot listen to SP now. They were his favorite band then, but mine now. I guess he may be a little jealous, or just tired of hearing them or about them. But I guess he realizes it is just a part of me, and always will be. Plus, it is his fault in the first place!
The reason I will always think BC is the best singer/songwriter/musician there will ever be, is because he is first off, but because he just loves music. Period. That's what it should be about.
And just to be clear...I don't want to have his babies, marry him, or hell...even meet him. All I want is to listen. And I always will.
Sorry this is so long, just felt like sharing!

I loved zero in this episode so i decided to listen to rotton aples all the way thru. I was mezmerized. Ever since then they have been my fav. band

Apparently I've been listening to SP since I was five, because my mom LOVED Siamese Dream and she would play it in the car or house all the time. But, it wasn't until I started really getting into music (maybe around twelve years old) that I started looking at her old albums. I'd listen to them and it would be weird because I remember the words and tune and everything but I hadn't heard any of those songs in, at the most, two years. So I listened to Siamese Dream 500 times, then I got Rotten Apples (still listening to this day) and then I looked SP up and watched all their interviews, documentaries, and music videos. And that made me start off good being a SP fan, I think, because I got to see Billy in all his levels and feelings and meanings and that really just added them all up. It made me see the music better, especially Disarm (which had always been my favorite song to sing when I was little.) And THAT made me go get MCIS, and now I am scraping up cash to add Adore and Machina to my collection. And I remain the weird, crazy one that worships the Smashing Pumpkins (and all their glory) in my group.
Not literally.
