I think a lot of casual fans and even some die hards will be disappointed with the new tour. The reason is that after every album they tour with that frame of mind and most of the set is material from the latest album. When you go back and look at the adore shows for instance they only played mayber 5 or 6 non-adore songs. Same thing for MCIS tour. The machina tour played a little more of the previous albums but usually was changed around a lot to fit the Machina mood they were in.

I'm betting that when with the new tour they will mostly play SP2 stuff and neglect a lot of the 'old favorites' or change them up too much for a lot of people's liking. Bands who do this kind of thing usually lose casual fans pretty quick and I was wondering what everyone's thoughts/predictions are on the new tour setlists.

Also on a sidenote: Since they were playing the role of Glass and The Machines of God instead of the pumpkins on the machina tour, do you think they will play a lot of Machina stuff. I could see them playing some of the songs that aren't so machina story specific but I don't forsee them playing Glass's Theme ever again. your thoughts.

Well, I agree they will mainly play songs from the new album - a tour is usually to promote a new album after all.
I think they will be faithful to the old songs though and not change them when they play them live. And I actually think they will try and do a lot of the older stuff just to emphasise that they're the same band in spirit.

well, so long as the casual listeners shut up and let me hear the show and don't bounce around in my face (like the clearly mental girl at thefutureembrace dublin show) i don't really care what the casual listener's opinion is... hehe... honestly though, i think it's different, when you're at a show with the atmosphere and the feeling of the sound surrounding you, i don't think it matters what version of a song they play, but just the fact that they played that song, and... if they play at least a couple of old songs then they're pretty sure to play at least a few peoples' favourite song

I won't be disappointed if they play lots of new material, I just want to make sure I know all the words to every new song out there before i go, I don't want to seem like a casual listener lol.

the new tour will certainly blow if Billy was absolutely serious when he said "I will never play these songs again" at the last show. But i'm sure then he wasn't even thinking about a reunion. I think that the new tour all kind of depends on what this new album sounds like. If it's more rock and guitar centered like Gish or Siamese Dream then i think they'll play a lot of new songs but when they play the old ones, they will be a close resemblance of older pumpkins. Although, it's kind of a welcome back tour for the pumpkins too, so hopefully they have a nice well rounded setlist.

I'm not sure how offical this is, but we heard that Mike Garson, the keyboardist who toured with the pumpkins during the Adore tours and some Machina, said that he wasn't going to be working with Billy on the new stuff because Billy said that he wanted to keep the new pumpkins as a stripped down band without keyboards. If this is true, and the pumpkins won't be touring with a keyboardist then surely they won't be able to play half of their back catalogue properly, especially anything from Adore.

but the live stuff from adore sounded nothing like the album either especially songs like perfect... i don't think it matters... we've heard them play tonight tonite with just guitars... that was hardly a bad version?

I doubt I'd be disappointed. To me, the live performances (at least in the past) are better than the actual album.

Considering their MySpace page has been hosting old songs every day, I'm pretty sure they haven't forgotten their past.

i think they've done that to remind us and others how good they were... they could have left it blank for another while afterall and just waited 'til they did have something new... it gets everyone a bit sentimental and reminds us what we've missed... the only problem with that is the you tube videos they keep putting up, you see james and d'arcy in them and can't help but think, if they aren't in the line up it'll be really strange

Yep, very true. I think that's why everything's been so secretive for the past year or so. I also think that BC finally came to his senses and that's why he decided to let Jimmy do the talking. If the original lineup really is in, I think they probably seconded that (especially D'arcy)...hence his correspondence with all of us on Myspace.

He said in one of his journal or his confession pages that when he was in France (I think) that he played today with a bunch of fans on some hillside when he was sight seeing, and he said something about that remark. I think the real question is who's going to fill the Darcy/Melissa and James void. Billy said that if they ever got back together that they wouldn't do a greatest hits tour, but at the same time i can't see them playing nothing from the past.
