BLinking with Fists Poems 2 Years, 2 Months ago
|
|
For school we have to memorize a poem and recite it to the class (Yes, it is pointless), so i was wondering if anyone could post their favorite Poem in blinking with fists, i dont have the book, so could someone do that?

Yeah to be fair the poetry is kind of poor, the upside of this is that I have a barely read, perfect condition First Edition of Blinking with Fists

to be honest i do not like learning about poetry, it is terribly boring, but reading it ans listening to it and writing it is fun, except when teachers put a minimum length on how long the poem is, its ridiculous!

i have the book, but would you get in trouble for breaching copyright laws for putting the poems on here? although, if it is for the purpose of education it fine right?...
the follies of summer
Quicksand, ocean sky
Wondering, don't ask me why or how we got here
We just did
The most eternal sun-drenched kiss is locked in my mind as
something i won't miss
Or even try to remember
Summer has come and gone so many times i've lost count
Endless, nameless, marked by time as nothing special
But the warmth is here, you see
In darling soliloquy
Hidden in costume and fine boned prose
Under canopies of shelterd light and life
Summer is here and it all mine

You may find Blinking with Fists at your library or a used book store, someone may have posted some of the poems online. I'm not comfortable posting the poems myself, but if you can find it, my favorite was "The Others". It reminded me of all the restless nights when I wanted to go out and be with other people, then like a wish coming true a friend would call. We'd go out, have fun, the rush of interaction mixed with alcohol and music. Then going home I'd look out the window at the people passing by, couples holding hands, kids late for curfew, a homeless man, and I'd feel such a sad disconnection. So far away from these people whom I'll never know and may never see again even though we are in the same city. I'd get home and say a prayer for them, that the couples would be faithful and happy, the kids wouldn't get into too much trouble, and the homeless would be warm tonight.
That's the amazing thing about poetry, a person writes something, and leaves their meaning up to interpretation. So that every once in a while, a person reads what seems like a page from their own thoughts.
If you can't find a poem of Billy's that you like, I reccommend Andrew Marvell's "To His Coy Mistress" and Shel Siverstein is funny.
