Well guys, I agree with Pugman...in the early part of their career you could lump the pumpkins up into a genre some called them "alternative" and some called them "grunge." Billy has stated that he never wanted the band to be known for one style of music so with MCIS he tried to incapsulate everything that the band was already known for with one double C.D. so that afterwards they could venture into other musical rhelms -The reason for the change Billy has said is that the band didn't want to keep being the same band they were but would rather show a different side of the band with each album. Thus we have Adore witch in my opinion just as good as the other material but not easily labelled. When record companies don't know what to label something they don't know how to market it. Adore didn't sell as well as MCIS but even still they did a full tour and DONATED the funds to local charities - that's definitely caring about the fans - how many other bands have done that???

Yes, and of course machina was "rockier"...they got the best rock drummer in the world back in the band!!! Also, Machina was different because they blended the heavy rock stuff of old with the newer electronic sound they had started using on Adore. I felt Machina was an excellent album but probably a little too experimental for most others who bash it.

Anyone waiting for ANOTHER MCIS or Machina for that matter can hang it up...they have already proven that they will stay innovative even if it means losing money...if that doesn't show that they care about their "DIE HARD" fans I don't know what does.



exactly...and for me i think that artists that dont particularly care about their fans wont give them too much time of day personally....there were maybe 5 of us that were smart enough to know that we could catch him out the back of the theatre when he was here last, and we simply went round and asked if he was about...10 mins later out comes billy. it was great, he holds conversations with random members of the audience..makes jokes...i went and saw NIN last year. youd never get that off trent. they walk on do their shit and walk off..not even an encore....gayyy

I think he does care but at the same time I think he plays what he and the rest of the band want to play but he'll gladly play to the crowd if we want him to, if that makes sense. I have heard some stories of negativity towards some fans but I think he respects the fans, especially us diehard ones.
I think this reunion is both for him and us.

Yeah....and who are we to tell the man what music to make anyway? Starting a band does not mean that you say ok guys we will play whatever our fans want." As an artist you create what you feel and people will either like it or not. I think the reason that we are fans even today is because the music they created was sooo unique that we can't get it from any other source so we wait around for years until we can have more. Now...if they had started their career just doing what was trendy they would have passed on with the other "grunge" and alternative bands that were out at the time.

Point: I 'm sure countless people are constantly telling Billy what music he should be doing - Record Execs, Fans, MTV....BUT Don't forget the Pumpkins got to where they are by daring to be different and doing the music they felt....Why should Billy Corgan listen to anyone tell him what type of music he should be making?

In the end I think Billy does care about his fans (fans support an artist like you would your favorite football team - win or lose)...but if you only support Billy when he does stuff that you like than you are not a fan...why should he care about people who are not true fans?

I think what Billy did was more than acceptable. Billy could of easily told him to shut up or go away. You've got to realise that Billy is a human being and more than likely on his free time wants to be one of the crowd. At least he isn't like most artists who tend to walk around with an entourage of body guards.

The thing with the ticket, again, he didnt have to sign it, it probably would of ended up on ebay anyway.

Billy is a man like you and i. Just because he doesn't do what you want him to do, or hasn't released the final metro, or because he's not telling us who's in the band etc... doesn't mean he doesn't care. He gives us more than we need and should appreciate it a lot more, and we should respect his privacy and appreciate that we don't lead his life and have no need to cross any boundaries like pure common sense.

I think Billy cares but he's not gonna be some emo sell-out to please people. He has his own style and tends to do what he wants, not what the fans want, but afterall its his music, you can like it or not like it. And I don't think Billy's motives are selling records.
