I am a drummer and i've never really heard of tracking drums first THEN writing around them. It is usually the other way around from extensive studio experience both session and with a few other bands. The songs are completely written when official tracking begins. There isnt usually anymore work to be done. Now, if they decide to make a last minute change, its usually on the order of guitar/bass/vocals. Drums aren't so much of a pain in the ass to track, it can just take a lot longer because you're recording a lot of things happening at once. With Jimmy being done or nearly done tracking the drums, i would imagine itll be a few weeks for guitars/bass/vocals to be tracked. God only knows how long mixing will take.

I honestly think that they did other things first. Otherwise that picture of Billy doing vocals and possibly playing guitar wouldn't be floating around. Though it's possible that rough mixes were done for Jimmy to track along with, I don't think that's the case. They wouldn't say "album out soon" if they were at such a stage. I'm hoping that mixing and overdubs are all that's left.

do you think that it is only jimmy and billy? (why would billy keep who is in the band a secret?, why should james being in the band be more secretive than jimmy being in the band?)maybe billy thought that it "would be less pumpkiny if we had new people in the line up as opposed to just having me and jimmy in it"

Although, wouldn't D'Arcy or James speak out and tell the community that they weren't working with the Smashing Pumpkins? From what I've heard D'Arcy and James aren't too fond of Billy or Jimmy anymore... Therefore, if they aren't working with Billy and Jimmy, after patching up pissing contest amongst themselves (respectively) they would definately be appauled and speak out against speculation. This leads me to believe that some of the old band members are working on the new album. But I don't necessarily think that's the case...

Krztoff records all the music for Bile by himself and only has the band for the sake of live performances (as far as I know). I think that's vaguely relevant.

His ethinicity aside, I think James would logically assume that if nothing can be resolved, why bother?

As for D'arcy, I really don't think it's fair to typecast her as drug-addled and apathetic. We don't know what came of her recovery. As with anyone, people get fed up when they're continually treated like shit and I think that's what happened here.

I also feel that if D'arcy (or to a lesser extent, James) want their privacy they should have it.

yeah, theres no point is discussing this anymore, we are just too bored, does anyone know how long it takes for an album to come out, from the first day in the studio?
