why does everyone have a problem with the little kiddies having their own "genre"

Hmmmm, probably because it's taken over the American music scene, it's all that's on the radio, on the TV, in the stores, etc etc

It might be nice to hear something that's not "emo" for once.

well maybe if the consumer base wasnt mostly 14 year old girls, we'd get some good music...

Thank God those emo bands aren't that successful here in Europe. The UK music scene is much better!

you are lucky. In my school we have teeny-boppers walking around singing "Dance dance" and "dirty little secret" (Sorry if these are kinda old, im not too up to date with stupid bands)

At least Muse and Placebo are better than Panic at the Disco

That's very true!
But we still have more bad music than good... I think it's much the same in North America and the UK. Still better than most other places though
Actually, Sweden seem to have quite a few good bands at the moment.

Trying to say that a band is emo or isn't emo all comes down to your own opinion.

exactly.
my friend said that Nirvana was emo. i tried to tell her they are grunge but she wouldnt listen... so its debatable.

I don't think Nirvana sounds very emo at all but some of the words are. "Look on the bright side suicide" for example. Oh and kurt (not sure if i spelled it right) screams sometimes but not like the screams that you hear in emo songs. All in all I'd say Nevermind was pretty much pop with a little grunge and most of their other stuff is grunge with a little pop.

So anyway I think that the emo-haters have become just as big as the actual emos. True, alot of emo music sucks in my opinion but I won't deny that I like MCR and will never care that they are emo because I think they are a good band. Extremely overrated but nonetheless good. However I don't like The Used and I can't stand Fallout Boy (mainly because the guy's voice annoys me).

So I don't think Smashing Pumpkins sounds anything like what I've heard of emo music. But if emo meant emotional then I'd have to say that most songs are emo because most music comes from some kind of emotion whether it be happiness, sadness, love, hate, or another. If emo meant sad though I'd have to say most bands have lots of good emo songs including Smashing Pumpkins. To Forgive, Blue Skies Bring Tears, Tear, and Blank Page are all pretty sad songs. But if emo means that whiny "pop-punk" (no offense to pop- punk that isn't whiny) made by the people with a strip of hair covering one eye then the Smashing Pumpkins have never been emo and I'm confident they never will be.

if emo meant emotional then yes, the pumpkins are emo- nealy every song ever made is emo because songs are usually based on some kind of emotion.
this is why i hate this whole emo epidemic- nobody knows for sure what it bloody well means!!

Re: sounding emo 2 Years, 2 Months ago
sorry for the double post-
as for the nirvana/emo thing, ive always looked at his music as grunge because of the way he sings it and the whole sound. i dont know too much about the lyrical content and whats behind it, but i once read that kurts lyrics were not really personal- just anything he could come up with. I COULD BE WRONG. this has just stuck in my head from when i read it.

Re: sounding emo 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Well i guess this will be usefull, its one of the best "documentaries" there are for "how to be an emo" ,

C'mon, Nirvana?? eMo??? The pumpkins!!!??? emo ???? are you fucking InSaNe!!???, have you ever heard of something called grunge?? c'mon cobain is like grunge king, (yeah, along with vedder bla bla bla..) and the pumpkins are grunge/rock in gish, maybe siamese dream, alt. rock in Mellon Collie, Very dark/alternative in Adore, New Wave/something strange in Machina I/II , but emo???

Sunny Day Real State----->>>Emo
My Chemical Romance ---->>> Emo
Death Cab for cutie------->>>>Emo
Panic at the Disco!-------->>>>Emo

The Pumpkins??------>>>NOT AN EMO
NEVER AN EMO !!
