The early years, the Psycho Tape and more 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Watching The Psyco Tape (aka 25 songs o'Pumpkins) it annoys me, fills me with tears and makes me so happy at once i don't know what to do. To see so many rarities and witness them with my own eyes, and hear with my own ears. It annoys me as there's so much that's still unreleased and yet even though this is just a sampler, that i want to see and hear the whole performance. It fills me with tears watching these as i may never see or hear the whole thing. It makes me happy knowing i've got to see them, and that there is more material especially from the early days still out there.

Okay maybe things like 1989-10-31 are around but to see James sing over 17 years ago just rocks. I so want to get a piece of the 2nd Oui Henri i'd give my left testicle.

I'm grateful to whoever has this material to give us a glimpse, but i'd totally love for all Pumpkind material to be available, wether it's soundboard, video or audio. Billy says he's got over 400 hours worth of live material.

God knows why the early stuff appeals to me so much. Especially the stuff not commited to studio recordings. I've 4 or 5 live Razor's including the bluesy versions, Nothing & Everything, Oui Henri, STP etc...

The albums are far superior, but something attracts me to the 1988-1990 unreleased material so badly i need to cross my legs when i sit down.

When Billy talks about 400 hours of live material, he is talking about the last years of the Pumpkins in particular. Since a certain moment (I can't remember if it was 1994, 1996 or 1997) they started taping and archiving all their live performances.

I'm rather certain most of the early stuff is out now, especially now that the Psycho tape leaked. I would also love more Oui Henris, but I doubt more were recorded. So I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I downloaded the psycho tape and I have watched most of it. I don't have a big attention span.

I like the old material, i wish more of it could surface.

400 hours is a lot of material, but i agree it would be later material. Some '96 are 2-3 hours long, aswell as some in the farewell tour.

There is evidence of a 2nd Oui Henri that cuts out a few seconds in. The only circulating audio is the opener to a gig, The Psycho Tape version comes straight after another song. I hope the person who videod the gig didn't just record the one song. It's good to know there is still a lot of early material yet to fully surface. I should be more grateful that the Psycho Tape has surfaced, but it makes me want to get hold of the shows fully, even if its only audio.

Do you really believe someone taped that show completely and that the tape is still lying somewhere, ready to surface some day? Personally, I really, really, really doubt that. (Why do you think only the first seconds of Oui Henri are included on the Psycho Tape if a complete recording existed?)

You shouldn't look at the Psycho Tape as a starter for what else is about to come. It is more like "the last thing that wasn't out yet". If other stuff would exist, we would most likely know it existed. Just like that Psycho Tape, for example: it was known to exist for years, but it only got widely circulated recently. Other examples are the '88 Avalon show and 1990-08-25.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for more pre-Gish stuff.

we need our pulse cable access video still, and the eye demo. but those chances are very slim, so at least we can still dream.

billy could always have endless amounts of privately recorded stuff that he keeps to himself

we have no way of knowing exactly what he's got that isn't released

Considering only a handful of '88 - '90 of shows have setlists and even less with recordings, there could be another dozen or so unheard of live only tracks Pre-Gish.

Adore had at least a further 40 'fragments' of songs recorded. LEt's not forget 48 chords

MCIS we have Patichio Medley with fragments of songs compiled into a 25 minute compilation. Let's not forget Magna Mellow

Machina, we have songs left out of the Machina Story. Bringing The Weather, Jam 13.

We have no way of knowing what exactly is out there. All of the studio bootlegs out there, Billy bootlegged them himself: Mashed Potatoes, FAEOMM, Garvity Demo's, MCIS Demo's...

The only well known one not to of surfaced is Quiet & 21 Other songs.

But then again, we do get glimpses in the likes of The Psycho Tape, the Satellites clip and Feelium from Pastichio Medley

at a guess, by thinking about all the unreleased material that there is already surfaced, I would think that there are probally about another 100 songs that are out there, considering machina demos, adore demos, mcis bsides, siamese bsides, old versions of songs, alternate versions, skeletons of songs, and pre gish live and demos, and those songs that didnt even get recorded live

there are so many possibilities of all these songs that are out there, but they probally won't ever surface because of hoarders and probably 90% of this stuff billy won't ever let out because he didnt like it or he just never does

so we can cry all we want over it, but its not going to probally be out there.. ever

and i was wondering what that is

yeah, if you ever try to become an artist/write music

you'll realize how many "skeletons" of songs he could have lying around

thousands, literally

...and the most that would have been recorded would have been like pistachio medley clips, well probably. Too bad we've heard most of everything that we ever will.

It would be awesome for them to release a book of lyrics for every song they ever played/recorded and free downloads to accompany it.

Eye demo: nobody can confirm this tape exists. And if it does, it's probably just a typical pre-Gish demo tape: a compilation of Reel Time Studios and other stuff we already have.

Pulse cable: Good call. I really hope a recording of this show still exists and that it will be released some day.

Also, the fact that most of the early shows don't have a setlist can indeed mean that there are more songs than we know of. But it also means none of them were recorded live.

I agree there's a lot of stuff still covered up, but I'm sure only a tiny little bit is pre-Gish stuff.
