Best Album Opener??? 2 Years, 1 Month ago
|
|

Listening to Pisces Iscariot this morning, all the way thru, I relaized (once again) how beautiful a song Soothe really is, it has an honesty and purity about it that the others have, but just can't quite touch.
This morning PI inspired me to write 5 new poems, just straight from no-where one after the other, I read the booklet whilst listening aswell, such a fucking awesome booklet.
I know PI and Judas 0 arn't albums, but they are still a collection of new songs that is commercially available and popular, so for me it counts.
So yeah, which song do you think was the best album opener?

I used to write so much, but recently in the past few months I've found it really hard. I found the PI booklet extremely inspirational for some reason, it rocks
To Shiela and TEG would be my favourites at different times, but it's just what mood I'm in now. They both set such a good mood for the album.

I don't know!!!
It is between Mellon Collie, MACHINA, and JUDAS O.
I like how the beginning of 'The Everlasting Gaze' starts out, I really like how 'Lucky 13' sounds and I really love the piano on "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.'
I think that if SIVA was the first song on GISH I would have picked that, but its 2nd.

if you count the 2nd disc as it's own then that would be my pick. Where the boys fear to tread. Just addicting and some of my favorite singing. Very clever with the doom explosion thrown into the mix and of course the DO DO DODO backup vocals. That song is awesome!

This is really hard. For me it would be between MCIS, Cherub rock and To Sheila. MCIS is one one of the most orginal album openers and fits the album perfectly, especially when the piano comes back in right at the end of farewell and tonight that gives you the really you've been on some amazing journey. Cherub rock has that amazing double drum roll that suggests the album is going to be extra special and prepares you for some preper rocking. And as for To Sheila; it has the ability to right away show that the pumpkins are taking a diverse change to their music without making it sound too radical or obscure and again sets the perfect tone for Adore and generally sums up the albums beauty. So, Yeah... I can't really choose.

I'm voting for Cherub Rock...it's between that and I Am One...both songs just set the right mood for me.

"To Shiela"! I love how hauntingly beautiful and delicate that song is.

oh yeah!!
i can never figure out where the sounds from doom are.
i love the backups aswell- does anyone now if they are james and da'rcy? or is it just billy?
i love it how it follows onto bodies... just like perfect flows onto daphne descends.

I'm pretty sure that its D'arcy doing that. I agree on where boys fear to tread completely. But going by the pole, I'd have to say Everlasting Gaze because it's super fucking catchy, its probably the best song on Machina( followed closely by wound & Age of Innosence), and it sets up Raindrops + Sunshowers nice by giving that contrast in mood.

This is really tough, every Pumpkins album has a great opening track...
I'm going to go with The Everlasting Gaze, it's just totally awesome... but then Cherub Rock is also great.

for me, it's between Cherub Rock and To Sheila. Cherub Rock is sooo cool and heavy... and you gotta love To Sheila, especially that small instrumental outro with those precious tingeling guitars...
And what about the Earphoria cd? I think Sinfony is a great opening track, I love those bliss guitar harmonies... too bad the rest of the Earphoria cd isn't that great.

i love sinfony- but why dont you like the rest? the only track i occasionally skip is disarm. billy just gets too worked up in some of those live versions.
