new album influenced by mars volta??? 2 Years, 1 Month ago

I was listening to some Mars Volta while I am doing homework and it occured to me that Corgan might have taken a cue from mars volta with the new album.
The Mars Volta is a heavy progressive rock band with incredible drumming, a high pitched singer, and tons of riffs and solos. They have often been compared to Rush. Jimmy mentioned looking to Rush for help.
This is purely speculation but it is possible because Corgan has been saying for a while they innovation and rock music aren't together anymore and that's why he wasn't rocking like it was 1994 anymore. Well Mars Volta has made a pretty big impression on lots of notable artists and has had commercial success despite being so damn weird and creative. Maybe this has inspired Billy that rock is relevant again and he is going to add to the prog rock movement.
Anythoughts?
I for one would be fucking floored if the pumpkins released a prog album in the vein of these guys, cause I know corgan would tear it up and they have the skills to do it. It would satisfy the people who miss the old days of rocking out and the people who want him to continue to do different things.
Anyway. Back to my paper.

I've only heard a little bit of Mars Volta, I like them, but I'm a fan of At The Drive-In which I think some of the people in Mars Volta originally started, it'd be a cool influence but I dunno, hopefully it'll be a completely unique album that will blow everyone's minds.

that would be fucking awsome...i love tmv!! i was supposed to see them in 2 days but its been postponed til march. ive seen them live heaps and atdi and they just blow you away. they are what i can only describe as a musical feast!!! its everything and its fast, loud but oddly soothing sometimes you hear it and your body doesnt know what to do. the black dude on keys isiah is rocking his keyboard back and forth, and the rest are jumping around like mad men in pants that are way too tight, ohh and cedric is just sexy!!
i can see billy doing that but in a more passive omar guitar way...dunno bout the crazy jumping around part..and it sorta goes the with music

the main talent in atdi as in:writing vocals and guitar, were Omar Rodriguez Lopez (guitar), and Cedric Bixler Zavala (vocals) basicaly just the two guys with the fros...atdi broke up and the members went on to form sparta which are shit and the mars volta which are brilliant ... omar and cedric are the mars volta...i love relationship of command but the mars volta are just as great

As a side note:
At the drive in is one of my favorite bands of all time. I believe they were revolutionary and I have every cd of theirs. Relationship of Command is not my favorite but it is brillant none the less. No one writes lyrics like Cedric. No one.
Mars Volta I don't like as much but still like them a lot. I saw them live for the Frances The Mute tour and I can honestly say that it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I've seen a lot of shows. They are way better live then on cd(might have something to do with no lame noisy interludes . Great band.
If corgan were to take that kind of progressive jam band approach to the new album it would be really something and might even sell pretty well. That genre is doing pretty good these days and with Mars Volta last album kind of sucking, their is a need for a new good album like that.
But then again if it's not like that I'm sure I will love it. SP never lets me down.

there is indeed a chance that you will hear some Mars Volta influences on the new SP record. After all, Billy has stated several times that he thinks the only good bands of the 00's are Muse and The Mars Volta.
But I think there won't be as much jamming on the SP record as there is on MV albums, simply because that's just not Billy. I think the new album will still contain these heavy SP-type 'pop' songs, but with sometimes measure changes (like The Mars Volta uses a lot).

As much as I love the Mars Volta and ATDI, I hope he takes influences from De-Loused, TMV started to get cocky after that.

As long as the new album is progressive to some degree, and still sounds like the Pumpkins, then I'll be happy. One band like the Mars Volta in the world is plenty. The Pumpkins should remain the Pumpkins.

It's in an interview with a Belgian magazine. I thought he'd said that more often, but maybe I'm wrong, maybe the only time he said it, was in that interview with the Belgian magazine.

What magazine? And when did he say it? Was he interviewed about Zwan or about his solo album? Or on another occasion?

lol I would'nt call that a crusade to try and convince you
I've never really given them a listen
though I agree 100% with Ruby, some cds you just have to listen to a few times before you actually like it
I did that with Machina
