Are the pumpkins with Warner? 2 Years, 1 Month ago

I just remembered that when I signed up with the newsletter when the new SP site just started, it was through Warner Records. Does that mean they are with Warner?

I'm pretty sure. I certainly don't think they'd ever go back to Virgin... Even Jimmy has sounded angry when he talks about the situation with the label.

Yes they are with Warner. I'd be pissed off too over what Virgin did with Machina 1 & 2

I think I posted this on another thread, but their signed to Reprise as far as I know, which is a subsidary of Virgin. Zwan was on Reprise too. If you go to the Pumpkins site and press the mailing list button without putting in an address, it comes up with a WB error page.

The good thing is that they're not with Virgin anymore, which means they'll get more support from their new label.
I'm hoping to see LOTS of releases of all kinds of awesome stuff when the Pumpkins "reveal" themselves.

even though they're with a new label now, wouldn't all of their previous stuff belong to virgin? wouldn't that make it harder for them to release a bunch of bsides cds or anything?
(I honestly don't know, don't kill me)

I think someone mentioned that some time next year Virgin won't have rights to their stuff...or something to that effect. So perhaps then something can be released. Besides, I don't think Virgin would have ownership of things that were never released...that seems kind of illogical.

Unfortunately that isn't the case. Anything that Corgan and the Pumpkins created (or rather, recorded) during the time they were with Virgin is the productive property of Virgin. Corgan may have the intellectual ownership of the songs, but the recordings belong to Virgin.

I remember hearing off this guy at a cd shop that if they ever cleared things up with Virgin, that they might do a whole bunch of live releases. Doesn't Virgin only have copyright over what Virgin have actually released, just look at the FAEOMM tape, and Machina 2.

Machina II was released in the form it was because Virgin WOULDN'T release it. So since their label didn't want it, they were free to release it however they wanted. Basically Virgin has first rights to release anything done by the Pumpkins until Machina.

In some ways Virgin are responsible for SP's downfall:
Machina was meant to be a full concept album, Virgin rejected the idea.
Machina was possibly going to be a double-disc album, Virgin rejected it.
Billy wanted to release Machina II for various reasons, but Virgin rejected it.
Given the fact that Virgin poorly marketed the album (even Billy admits this), despite SP's high profile, it could of sold a lot more than it did.
SP had released 4 top selling albums, done 4 world tours by then, they had sold millions of albums all over the world. Yet for thier 5th album proper, they had no creative control over the final release. Is it any wonder they split up to pursue thier own projects?
Several years ago i did a kind of joke thread saying that they've only split up until the contract runs out, i think i could of been right

you've got a good point there
record labels
can't live with em, can't live without em
if given the chance, do you think they'd go back and release a bunch of things?

Interesting point. And that makes sense, too, becaue doesn't their contract end next year?

I'm starting to think that the end of the contract and the return of the band really are going to coincide. | | | | |
