I enjoy "Rhinoceros" quite a bit, for some reason.

"Cherub Rock," as simple and boring as it is - well, somehow it actually FITS Billy's vocal stylings! I love the way he squeals, "Let me out!" and all that other cud he squeals.

There's also a Moody Blues fan deep inside me who gets all giddy whenever he hears that ditzy little "Today" song with the ice cream truck. And "Soma"! Ooo! That's a really pretty one (until he brings in the heavy guitars and it turns into another predictable Pumpkins plodder). And Dave and I could definitely shake hands on the "squeak noise in 'Mayonaise'" issue. I forkin' LOVE that squeak noise! Have you heard it? He just keeps totally stopping the music for like half-a-second to let the guitars feedback. It's very tight, very cool, and probably the most interesting thing he's done since he formed the group (aside from "Zero," but I'll discuss that song a little later).

Let's see.... Oh yeah! Another good one! "Quiet" is a really great rock song.

And this guy only gave it a 4/10.

I wouldn't worry at all about this guy. I mean, I actually feel kind of sorry for him. When you read his stuff, it becomes clear that he THINKS he's a very good writer and "edgy" reviewer—but geez, it's a wonder if he ever passed any sort of college-level argumentative writing course. It's not even writing—it's rambling.
He tries so hard to sound witty and clever, but he just ends up making himself sound like a moron. He just doesn't know what he's talking about in general. And the worse thing is that his ego is through the roof! But people like that will undo themselves eventually. I mean, where does he get his kicks from? From feeling superior by telling everyone that nothing is up to his standards? Good reviewers explain and make the case WHY they don't like something. This guy just declares stuff to be crap and leaves it at that. With about 5 exclamation for every 2 sentences he writes. That's cool! Not! AHAHAHAHA! I'm so cool!

Let's not worry about this guy.

It wasn't the reviewer that really pissed me off as much as all the people agreeing with him and calling him a genius. It's sickening. Everyone should be entitled to their opinion. And blind faith in something is equally bad. If we were to just say the the Pumpkins are the best band on the face of the planet, and not have any sort of a critical eye towards them, we would also be morons. But this guy, who obviously doesn't have the knowledge, triumphs himself as a superior person who has the authority to say what is good and what is bad. It isn't a bad review of the Pumpkins that I hate, it's the guy's tone, as venison said, the 5 exclamations every two sentences, and above all, his complete lack of knowledge of what he's reviewing and his bias for the reviews.

And by the way, I don't believe Adore and Machina were out a decade ago

I guess the only guy this guy does these reviews is so he can be a 'big man' and get some attention he missed out as a kid, and so every SP fan would be talking about it, so he gets more attention and feel even 'bigger'.

The best thing to do is ignore it, if no one is listening then he has no voice.

I'm sad to hear people say that this guy is 'putting you off SP ' 'doubting them' etc... How big is your faith when 1 person can put start putting you off them compared to the hundreds of fans on here who like SP?

You guys clearly didn't check out the rest of the man's site. It's not a fan page, he's not looking to make a buck; it's his personal review site. He has a shitload of other bands on there who he reviews indepthly. You're posting on a Smashing Pumpkins board, clearly you're pretty into that band. So obviously, if somebody bashes them, you're gonna get a little miffed. He doesn't mindlessly shit on them; he's given bands many lower ratings. He doesn't give them perfect scores, but he praises them at times and critiques them too. He's just not crazy about them, that doesn't mean he's trying to be a BIG MAN. Not to mention he doesn't take himself entirely seriously... a lot of his reviews have silly jokes in them; he doesn't claim to be the greatest writer in the world, it's just something he enjoys and I for one think he's pretty darn good at it (if you would dare to read the rest of his site). Notice his site has the feature to post a comment under his review... if you tools are so mad about it, then why don't you send in your thoughts to him? He'll post anybody's email, so clearly he's willing to take what he dishes out.

So basically stop whining, and do some research before you start mindlessly bashing a guy.
Remember that not everybody likes everyone's music; different opinions will result.
You don't have to cry because EVERY SINGLE PERSON doesn't love your favorite band.

I did read the rest of the thread. And he does give quite valid reasons. You're all being extremely defensive. He backed up his arguments relatively well. As I said before, check out the rest of his site, he does much better on other bands and is a good and quirky writer with excellent taste.

And don't worry, I certainly won't get an account here. Goodbye.
