"The Pumpkins" (whomever is in the band) will be playing the Reading Festival next year in England.
They better be playing lolla too. Or I'll kill people. I mean come on, it's in chicago.

Yes to Lollapalooza! I'm a member of the boards there, and the curator is supposedly trying to get the Pumpkins to play as a headliner. Hopefully it'll happen.
And when the Pumpkin Queen said that it's a lose-lose situation, it makes it sound like this more like Zwan version 2.0 w/ and not or

I've decided that when the L.A. fan meetup rolls around, not only am I going, but I'm gonna write the "band" a letter telling them how I feel about all of this. Apparently the Pumpkin Queen will send stuff back to them, so I really hope that they'll read what I have to say.

I think that Billy and Jimmy are the Pumpkins. It's in their intent that makes the band what it is, not the members. Billy in most cases writes the lyrics, decides musical arrangements, etc. etc. Think of past albums, i.e. Siamese Dream, where Billy practically performed all of it.
[My opinion of course!]

While they are Pumpkins, the band is the band. The band itself (Jimmy and Billy included) have said time and time again that the four members are what make the band, and certainly what helped make the band special. To me anything else seems pointless to me. If you're gonna go to all the trouble of bringing back something that's supposed to be dead, do it right...

This isn't going to leak at all, it apparently isn't possible.
Breathes sigh of relief

Also there is apparently NO animosity between Billy and the other band members, much of that is just press bullshit apparently."
On edge of seat with anticipation

Something funny she noted was Billy's utter commitment to sound, this isn't like a conventional recording. One of the reasons it is taking so long is Billy's utter dedication to finding that perfect sound - he will listen back to takes then spend 4 hours re-recording one particular facet because he wants a certain pedal hooke dup to a certain sounding guitar for only a minimal part of a song - she said she was amazed at the way he knows exactly how he wants it to sound.
Passes out on the floor from the shear awesomeness of how this is starting to sound, i dont care what netphorian says, this is sounding good

hhhmm, you raise a valid point, but i dont think you have to work in absolutes, just because it wont be as good as it potentialy could be, it doesnt mean that its "pointless" i am looking foward to the new album no matter who else is in, it could be kurt's rotting corpse for all i care

I don't know, I'm certainly not expecting D'arcy to be back in since she seemed to be the most in opposition to being in the band, however without James it just doesn't seem correct to carry on with the Pumpkins name, and having some random guitar player taking his place. People often forget that before anyone else came along, it was just James and Billy. People also seem to overlook that James was the only other constant member of the band. James of course was always a fixture of the band and without him it would all just seem hollow.

That's perfectly understandable...it's a really strange situation. To think, if the band had just taken breaks when they were still together, there could have probably been no need for a break up.

would they say they were bringing back the smashing pumpkins if it were just billy and jimmy?
i dont think so...jimmy and billy came back as zwan
and if billy liked the pumpkins ideas, he could sure carry them on again
but i agree about james....d'arcy would be a sweet plus, but without james it just wouldn't seem like the smashing pumpkins we know and love

I really hope that's the case. But from what certain interviews point to, it's likely that both Billy and Jimmy would consider their collective work and output worthy of being labeled as the Smashing Pumpkins, regardless of the composition of the rest of the band.
To me that really isn't a good thing.

Well according to a few people who were there she said that the new sound is a mix between SD and MCIS with a 'new twist' .
Thoughts?
To me that sounds very cliche', as much as I love those albums I wouldnt want the Pumpkins to put together an album just for the sole purpose of moving records. Knowing Billy, he wouldnt do that, but i suppose it just depends on how much that "twist" twists the music.

Yeah I was a bit urked about hearing that it was 'SD and MCIS with a twist as well'. I don't want to repeat themselves with Machina either, but still would like to see synths in there (not FutureEmbrace electronic, but more in the sense of Adore and Machina but building upon that). It's fine if they are going to more guitar heavy rock, and in that sense being sort of like SD and MCIS, but I don't want them to repeat themselves. Hopefully the twist is big, and this talk of return to so-called form basically is just to get people excited to buy the album who didn't like Machina and/or Adore, at least not as much as the other albums.
As for the whole undercurrent of disliking the current state of the US, I really hope its REALLY subtle. I don't want to find myself listening to the songs and ruining them for myself by constantly questioning the political subtext of a song. It's fine to be political, but I don't want it be even to the level of Ok Computer political, and that was just the tip of the iceberg for Radiohead, if you know what I am trying to say.
Alex (Kahlo) seemed to indicate on Netphoria that TPQ was suggesting that Europe would see the Pumpkins "WAY before America" or something. He thought it was a bit strange, which is exactly what I was thinking. I can understand, they have done this in the past where they did a Europe tour before doing a North American tour. But I would find it very hard to swallow that they wouldn't do at least a show at Metro as their first show. Regardless of who is in the line-up, it has to be a Metro. I am not from Chicago, but I would try my best to make it out for the first show if its in Chi-town.
In an ideal world, Billy would be completely bullshitting, and surprise us with the original 4 members, but that's not going to happen. However, I do think what he got TPQ to say has less to do with a 'lose-lose situation' and more to do with building up suspense.
I was reading in another thread on there that apparently the TPQ mentioned something about the possibility of bringing back in Glass and the Machina Mystery for a novel and possibly a film project-it's in a thread called "Glass is not dead'". I am not sure what the film project would entail, but if its anything like Tommy or something like that, that's something my brother mentioned to me on a whim 6 years ago .
