Robert Smith should of never made another album after Michael Dempsey was sacked in 1979 as they were just pure crap without him, don't you all agree? They were never The Cure again without thier original guitaristbassist, i mean, just look at Pornography, that would of been 10 times better with him, but i refuse to buy it as he isn't on it, it just killed it for me...

Just to re-cap on previous threads for the people here who are worried that SP won't be SP without James. Don't worry so much, i'll wait to hear thier music and i won't judge it on the things that "should" be. I'll listen to it as a band releasing an album and what is on it.

If you don't like the fact James isn't in the band the best thing to do is boycott anything to do with the new SP

My god, if you don't like the fact that James isn't in SP then the simple fact is not to get involved with any aspect of SP without James. That is why. If you don't like it, and you don't believe in SP because it doesn't have a member or 2 then live in the past and not progress from the first 5 albums. If you're going to bitch about it, then why take any interest what so ever in the new album?

This is why, it's called living in the past and not giving progression a chance. It's called knocking something before you've even heard a note.

I was joking manders, i was making fun in a subtle way about people bitching about original members not being around. Hence the fact that Pornography and as you say Disentegration being such good albums despite not having the original guitaristbassist. Whatever was brought before, and wasn't influenced after, they still produced some classics.

James' may not appear on the new album, but it doesn't mean it's a bad thing, in a way it could be a good thing. James' songs weren't the strongest but they were good. Nothing & Everything and Ball & Chain remain my firm James favorites, with Bugg Superstar and Go a close second.

James was at his highest influence Pre-Gish and Gish. Gish was the whole band. SD was Billy. MCIS was recorded bit by bit. Adore was Billy. Machina was the band.

exactly- i never knocked sp2. i just expressed how pissed off i was about everyone saying billy and jimmy are the heart of the smashing pumpkins.

Well, if i could only have 2 members, it would definatly be bc and jc, no question about it.

I think that people should stop looking at it like it's Billy's band, or Billy and Jimmys's band and that they would have to ask if James would want to come back in, or if he would be allowed in or any crap like that, I think that it's all of them collectivly that makes the band, I can't really express what I mean at the moment but I hope someone gets it that it's just not Billy.

......The Cure is a great band, my second favorite under SP, and I haven't heard their first album. As I have said so many times to so many different people, different people have different tastes in music. Take your damn hate to hatephoria, where it belongs.

And I agree, while it would be cool to have the original lineup, I have faith in the new SP either way. The band has been able to make their albums original, shifting in tones and style for all of them. I think this'll be a great new album.

And by the way, I haven't heard o f "Ball and Chain" before. Is it on RSPAA or somewhere else? If you could give me a link, it would be much appreciated.

Every successfull band reuniting has the same issues, lets take guns & roses they really have only the one original member during the comeback tour that doesn't stop them from moving on cause the real fans of that group are still there to hear the old and new songs, just the same with the pumpkins we all want to hear the classics and were pumped for the new material so it really doesn't matter who is in i would love to see every one back of course.

I am going to be very open minded, but it wont mean i wont be disapointed if they dont have the original 4. Mellisa would soften the blow, but it wont be the same with out all 4. Yet i will still buy the albuma and go see the shows.
