Re: Better Name??? 1 Year, 10 Months ago
I prefer Space Theatre, as it's more in keeping with the image of the Pumpkins as introverted dreamers. And I want to buy some more Pumpkins dreams!

Zeitgeist smacks of a desperate attempt to present the album as hip, and of the times. If the Pumpkins manage to make an album that taps the common consciousness, this should happen naturally, not planned, or stated so overtly!

Also, Zeitgeist was the name of a Levellers album in 1995. It was a huge Europe-wide smash. I liked that band: their first three albums were great. But Zeitgeist was rubbish.

They need to combine the names of their other albums and make something crazy sounding like...

"Pisces Dream and the infinite Adoring Gishphoria and the Machines of the Friends and Enemies of Modern Lull that Flies High"

Uhh... Rotten Apples and Judas 0 don't count...

They stole that name??? If someone else has already used zeitgeist than I think electric space theater wins by default.

I don't think it counts as stealing if it was from an apparently crappy album 12 years ago. Some names take a while to grow on you, anyways. Seriously, look at names like Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Machina: The Machines of God. They may seem a little ridiculous at first, but hell, what's in a name anyway? I say let the album speak for itself.

I think the point is that those names WERE good names (not to say zeitgeist isn't)...but at least the names MCIS and Machina made more people excited than confused. You're right - the music will speak for itself but even Billy himself is quoted as saying that the name of a song is like the wrapping on a present...I feel the same about the name of an album. EST just excites me more than Zeitgeist.

-Oh and YES it still counts as stealing. LOL

I still don't see how it is stealing, unless of course Billy actually saw the album in question and thought to himself, "Hey, what a great album title, I think I'll use it." I really don't see why people are hating on the German title. Zeitgeist - spirit of the times. And if people think that the title is an attempt to stay current, maybe it is. Remember the first line of The Everlasting Gaze?

Well, I'll put it this way - if Fallout Boy drops an album called Gish I'd love to hear you defend them. LOL

But you know...You just made an improvement to the title! I think they SHOULD call it "Zeitgeist - spirit of the times" - that sounds way better

i still like my idea about the colour thing.

like "define these colours" or "colours intertwine" or "hold your colour"
then they couldve made their music nice, colourful and psychedelic to go with the title
