teases and merges 1 Year, 10 Months ago

i suspect the new songs will have teases of previous songs, and merges, like the riff of one old song with the slightly changed lyrics of another old song, and if the songs dont have that, its not what the pumpkins wouldve really done, but i bet someone 50 bucks they have that, remember, they are long songs, theres gotta be at least one tease  |

Yeh, I don't know about on the album but definatly on the tour, like with adore, that BWBW they always played with variations of Where Boys Fear to Tread and Zero at the start.
Would be kind of funky on the album though, if they did it right, which I'm sure they could.

I don't think they would purposefully do that. It'd be a blatant appeal to their glory days, as though they needed to stop progressing artistically to recapture what they had. That's kind of cheap and has-beenish.

i'm sure they will on tour though, and I'm sure they'll disappoint me when they start playing starla and then stop all of a sudden and move on...

They've never done that on an album before, but Billy is unpredictible. I actually doubt they'll do that on the actual album, because when you're making an album, it's a new thing. You don't remind people who are ensnared in this new thing of something they did before. It breaks the mood. Having said that, I do agree that they will do it on the tour.

This album I'm guessing their gonna start a fresh. Hey we don't even know its genre yet so we can't state whether or not they will do teases. As has been said many a time; they don't make the same album twice.

yeah, like rape me, i think it would be a cool idea, enough of that "the music has to change the world" shit, it would just be fun to rock out to a mutated merge of a couple old songs, i mean, just in the musical breaks in a long song

maybe nirvana would, but i'm pretty sure billy wouldn't do that... somebody used the term "self-referential", and I agree that Billy is totally against that...I don't think he likes to live in the past, that's why they keep changing

Like someone said before, they wouldn't do it on purpose for the album. When you write as many songs as Billy, some ideas are bound to overlap and sound similar in a way, but I figure that's just the Pumpkin's distinct sound. Other than that, I think the band makes a conscious effort to evolve and avoid reproducing the same material.

Maybe not musically, but how about lyrically? Billy has used lyrical themes/connections in the past (the best example I can think of would be 'June'  . |
