BAND TO UNVEIL SONGS FROM UPCOMING ALBUM 'ZEITGEIST'




THE SMASHING PUMPKINS are excited to announce their first live performance since December 2, 2000 - a very special and intimate theatre show to take place May 22 in Paris, France at the historic and elegantly appointed Grand Rex. Tickets will go on sale April 11.

This marks the first time The Smashing Pumpkins will unveil songs from the upcoming ZEITGEIST (Martha's Music/Reprise), their sixth album and first of new material since 2000's Machina/The Machines of God and the free, digital-only release Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music. ZEITGEIST was produced by Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, with Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date working separately on various tracks, and represents the culmination of two years of work.

After the Paris show, The Smashing Pumpkins will headline major European festivals from May 28 at Holland’s Pinkpop festival through June 17 at Switzerland’s Greenfield Festival, returning to England August 24 (Leeds Festival) and August 26 (Reading Festival). Stay tuned for more information about North American tour dates beyond the V Festivals confirmed in Washington, DC (August 5) and Toronto, ONT (September 8).

I don't suppose there will be any Australian dates announced will there?
But I'm happy that we have some news, and May isn't that far away

For sentimentle value it might have been cool to have the first show back at The Metro but I don't think it really matters a lot... But why should the American fans be treated better than fans in other parts of the world? I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but I think it's good that fans from Europe and other places are being treated equally to fans in America.

Agree. Sure, they probably feel differently towards their American fans, and rightly so, but I don't think you should be all like "oh they hate us" blah blah blah if they don't play in America first.

And also, i think doing something for sentimental value is a bad idea (at the moment). They seem so be staying away from this type of thing, and I hope they continue to do so. This is a new album, new time, etc... they're focused on the present and the future - this album/tour should be about how they rock now, not about remembering how they used to rock. Yeah.

Playing in the city where you grew up is not about remembering how you used to rock. But even if it was, the way they used to rock is what made u fan - Don't forget Mary:/

The question is: how can u carry on such a legacy in Chicago - Profess such love for the place - to the point that you make your band synonymous with Chicago even do a whole project entitled "Chicago Songs" and not perform there first? We're good enough for the "last show" and not for the re-union? Its just sucks. Other countries have their bands - SP is "AN AMERICAN BAND 4 U."

I think billy is afraid to perform here first because the fans here will be more critical of the band if they suck...especially in Chicago (especially after Zwan). I say let them warm up their act overseas...as long as they suck there and work out the kinks before they get here.
