i wasn't trying to mean stumbleine im was trying to point out things could be a lot worse there might not be any new pumpkins material out. The way i talk on hear like i don't care about james doesn't mean i dislike him i do appreciate what he did for the band and it would of been nice to see him back but i just knew it wasn't going to happen i hope i didn't offend you.

Most likely James didn't wanna be in the band (which supposed was the case in the past), in which case you should respect both James' decision, and Billy's for wanting to reform the band.

Yes James was there from day one, but James wanted to leave the band...that's (partially, at least) why they broke up. And, he's not in the band now, so he's not "staying in there" any more, is he?

This news makes me sad also, however, I mean, there's no James, we pretty much knew that. I'm going to miss him but life goes on.

I am laughing out loud., Krist being in the band would be awesome, finally someone taller than Billy. Its a shame James isn't in, i mean "Soma" is a perfect example of how Billy and James were one of the best guitar duos ever. But really, if Billy is the one who pretty much writes all parts to the song (mostly) in the past, I doubt the pumpkins will sound different. However I hope he found a guitarist he has good chemistry with like he did with James. And really the music wise the bass rarely had a starring role in Smashing Pumpkins songs, if we were talking about a punk, blues or ska band I'd be a little more worried about the bassist, but for the msot part the bass is pretty simple in most of their songs. On the other hand Melissa knew how to dance/rock out while playing, she was awesome.

It won't feel like the smashing pumpkins to me. The music isn't all that matters to me, it's the band as well. You can't make an argument that "the music won't be different" because wtf are you comparing it to?

Gish smashing pumpkins and Machina smashing pumpkins could be two different bands, they changed so much over the years.

I think they will tour with no-name touring backups, because that's probably what they're doing in the studio.

I always assumed he wouldn;t be in, but seeing it in black and white still seems pretty shocking. And its not as if billy didnt try to get him back. Its just that james did not respond to billy's invitation in the tribune. Its his own choice.

James probably wants to do something else. This way, there will be more pumpkinesue music in different forms - maybe?

Billy owed James more than a stupid magazine article that wasn't even addressed to James. If Billy wanted to revive the band that he and James started ToGeThER, it shouldn't have been James responsibility to call up Billy and say "Hey Billy, I know we haven't talked in years, but I saw your magazine article and was wondering...can I be in it?"


James obviously didn't want to be in it, but I still can't help feeling a little disappointed in Billy based off of what we know. Obviously we can't know exactly what has gone down, but from the line in James announcement "we haven't talked in years" I'm gathering that Billy made no attempt, at least no personal attempt to talk to James about it.

that article in the newspaper was just letting the general public know that he was reforming the pumpkins.
even if billy had asked james personally, he (james) might not have said yes, but some effort on billys behalf wouldve been nice.

and to all those people getting pissed about james not coming out and saying that he wasnt in before now, you should all wake up.. james didnt have to at all, billy shouldve been the one informing sp fans who was in and who was not. it isnt james's job to do that. if you dont understand, then you are just stupid.
