Get over yourself...Billy doesn't need to contact James for the fans. Yeah sure, he should out of respect for James, and the band...but I'm sure a lot went on that we don't know about...

Most likely James didn't wanna be in the band (which supposed was the case in the past), in which case you should respect both James' decision, and Billy's for wanting to reform the band.

Yes James was there from day one, but James wanted to leave the band...that's (partially, at least) why they broke up. And, he's not in the band now, so he's not "staying in there" any more, is he?

Well, maybe because he was growing older and didn't wanna rock the world anymore? Maybe because he was never that into the band in the first place? Maybe because he wanted to write his own material? My point is, we don't know, do we? But I don't think we can just assume it's because Billy's an ass, or whatever you seem to be implying.

If you liked the pumpkins, you'd realise that they're all about change, and doing what they feel is right, regardless of what the record companies, the fans, the critics, pop culture, etc says they should do. Billy's got huge vision for the band. He has had since day one when he formed the band (I know he formed it with James, but it was Billy who initiated it. Yes, this is important). And yes, he can be a huge prick at times (eg firing Jimmy through a manager), and this could be another example of that (if he didn't make enough effort to contact James), but I think for the most part, he's got integrity, (he said when the band broke up that it was because James didn't want to continue, and he didn't wanna continue without James out of respect for him or something, I can't be bothered finding the exact quote) so it could just as easily be an example of Billy being Billy, and doing things which he thinks are right, and which piss some people off.
Hey, at least you've got LICD 2 to look forward to for your James fix. Poor Beleive's got nothing with D'arcy...

It won't feel like the smashing pumpkins to me. The music isn't all that matters to me, it's the band as well. You can't make an argument that "the music won't be different" because wtf are you comparing it to?

Gish smashing pumpkins and Machina smashing pumpkins could be two different bands, they changed so much over the years.

I think they will tour with no-name touring backups, because that's probably what they're doing in the studio.


A good point but still if Billy is in it, nd Jimmy for that matter, It'll still be smashing pumpkins. whether its machina, gish sounding or something completely different. Its really a matter of how you looked at the pumpkins, but as a musician and poet i'm more concerned about the music and Corgan's ideas, I've only looked at James as a great lead/rhythm guitarist and not much more. ( he was pretty funny live tho.)

well all i saw was "amusing? "
that could be interpreted in lots of different ways.
so ill answer your question.. i found let it come down amusing because i could listen to it for hours and it still kept me entertained. some songs also brought me laughter. that is why i implied the last one was amusing.

someone probably said this before me a few pages back, but you must not forget that James would not be making a second solo record at all if it wasn't for Billy. If he had never met Billy, he would not be famous right now and would not have the opportunities he has now. He might be a talented guitarist and a cool person, but that's it. He's no genius.

Some would say Billy is no genius either. I mean everyhthing he has done without James has been just OK - nothing Great (Zwan, TFE) maybe their genius came from their chemistry.

I don't know... there is this theory (which I now hope is not true) that says that the peak of a person's creativity is between the age of 20 and the age of 27-28 or so. That would explain why everything from pre-Adore is labelled 'genius', while the rest of Billy's work isn't.

However, I'm an allround fan and I think Adore was brilliant, Machina was still ten times better than anything else put out in that era, Mary Star of the Sea was gorgeous and most songs from TFE are among the best music that has been released lately. I don't think Billy has lost his gift. He's still a genius today, his work is still genius.
You also see it in clips on youtube where he plays these intimate songs, like "Lost in the woods". Billy is still enormously creative. If that's not genius, then what is?

If freakin James isn't in the new lineup, what hope does that leave for D'arcy? Not much, I believe....

But for James to openly give that info away for Billy.... that gives me the impression that they're on bad terms, not just neutral ones....
Maybe James is... joking? Lying? Yeah, let the denial begin!
