Yes, and it's always the American critics. Have you noticed that The Western world doesn't give anyone in music a second chance? And then, Europe (And I don't know about Asia) will listen to stuff if it's good. Just in general. It seems like there's two completely different general music cultures. Like for instance, The Cranberries haven't put anything out in a while and America forgot about them. I hear they're still big in Europe. I could be wrong, of course.

yeah, i'll say something about the cranberries and nobody knows what i'm talking about... then i actually sing/hum one of their hooks and nobody knows... then i'm like, "have you seen Click?" ding!
billy used to talk about how everyone in europe loved adore, and MADM talked about all those asian girls crying and begging the band not to break up, but here it was like "...their career failed. fuck em." they were still one of the biggest bands when they went out, just not to most of america

especially the stuff about his angst sounding artificial and his screaming being mellow disturbs me. That does not sound good.
But the rest of it sounds promising...
Well, I guess my opinion is mixed, in a way. Yes, Billy's voice has changed a lot over the years. And as much as I miss his old vocals, I do believe they have improved. People worry about him not having loud, screaming vocals anymore, kinda like MSOTS and TFE...
But this album, as we all know, has been described as containing heavy music. Has Billy done anything heavy since 2000? No, he hasn't. Yes, we will have to expect changes, and will hear things from Billy we haven't heard before. But this will still be the Pumpkins. There will be core elements in this album that were present in the band in the 90's. A lot of Zeitgeist is being said to be heavy; therefore, I believe Billy will have vocals to back that up. He is a more mellow person now... but if he is calling this band The Smashing Pumpkins, we can expect him to still rock out like his old days... otherwise, he would not call this band The Smashing Pumpkins.

I heard in an interview with Billy from 2 ears ago to expect something along the lines of Black Sabbath, but don't quote me.

Ummm, Adore was not loud but it was Smashing Pumpkins...who knows what direction billy wants to take this "band" - everyone is pretending that just becasue he's calling this SP it's gonna be another MCIS or SD. The truth is, SP was just as quiet as they were loud AND billy is gonna do whatever he wants to do with no consideration for what fans want. As with adore where he basically said the fans let him down for not supporting him, at that point he said he knew he could not make music for anyone but himself. POINT: If you think Billy is gonna scream his head off just to please old SP fans - you may have a suprise waiting for u.

Everyone should judge by their own ears. No goddamn critic is gonna have even a margin of sway when it comes to me forming my own opinion.
A lot of these so called popular "music" magazines are famous for trashing classic albums and then conforming to public opinion later on. It's a pathetic game and at the end of the day it's just the opinion of one insignificant individual who probably doesn't care about the band and just needed to fulfill their job requirements.

The cranberries are not big in europe as far as I know, most people only know zombie.
But an example: dave matthews band is one of the best-payed bands in all of the world, and they are one of the biggest bands in the usa, right? well, they are almost completely unknown over here in continental europe. they sometimes visit some festivals, but you never hear them on the radio or see them on tv.
But you may be right about the two different music cultures. But also in terms of just the music scenes in america vs. those in europe. I have the impression that few of the bands that are big in america are really that innovative, most of those bands (like, here we have them again: mcr, p!atd, fall out boy, ...) are just copying eachother. I believe that there's a greater tendency in europe to try new things than there is in america.
