One thing I just wanted to inform everyone about was something I read that Billy said afew years ago. He said if he were to ever reform the pumpkins, he would only do so if he thought he could capture the magic of the pumpkins once again. If he couldn't do that he would put the band to rest. Just have faith in Billy, he knows what the pumpkins are about more than we do.

One last thing, people are getting worked up over the one or two reviews that have been released, but let me remind you Adore and Machina were commercially failures. When I say failures I mean they didnt sell as good as they had hoped and did not get good re views. Despite that the fans still loved the cds. Hopefully, that eases some minds out there.

It was quite the opposite case with both Adore and Machina. Both albums were received very well by critics. Adore in particular was met with much critical acclaim. It was the fans who were not as enthusiastic, particularly with Adore seeing as it was such a departure from Mellon Collie (and no Jimmy on top of that). Conclusion, both albums were critically successful but commercially unsuccessful.

The first comment is what i have been saying all along more or less

BLAH BLAH BLAH - Billy also said at one point that if any of the original members left he wouldn't carry on with the band -so we know he's not exactly a man of his word.


and Feedbackscar has already made my other point...the fans didn't support those albums - thats why those projects were viewed as less successful. Billy even went so far as to criticize the fans for not allowing him the freedom to do something different.

No no, i can just understand why billy would get irritated because of people dismissing his work or new direction simply for not "rocking like they used to", i gues its the case with alot of bands that try to evolve.

Well - I think that when you are an artist you can either create to please people or you create to please yourself. Billy can't say one minute that he wants to be this free artist who makes music for himself and not for public opinion - then get mad at the public's opinion of his work.

In reality, it would have been fans that bought the album. When he said the word "fans", I think he was most likely directing it at casual listeners. It's a bit ambiguous to direct it at all music lovers or "the scene" or whatever.

WOW that's a bold statement.

I thought Adore was phenomenal. I was 17 when it came out, I admit I disregarded it at first, but I think it's hard to deny how great that album is. The same hold true for Machina.

At least the Pumpkins are not like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and make the same album over and over and over. I don't respect bands like that at all.
