This sin't based on any concrete information, but just speculation. Do you tthink there's a possibility of a secret show before the Pumpkins' appearance at the Grand Rex? And how would I even find out about that? I was thinking that maybe they woud go under their alias Starchildren. I wouldn't want to miss this, especially as it would probably take place at the Metro, a show I could actually get to fairly easily.

I don't think its too likely. They are coming back after a 6.5 year break, so doing a secret show by Grand Rex would not be a great idea for them given that it would fly under most people's radars. Now doing a secret show sometime in between their tour dates may be a possibility but who knows.

I dont think that they would, mainly due to the fact that they advertised the rex as the "first show back", it would probly piss off ticket holders that they played a show before it, and would detract from the specialness of being at the first show

The first show is like a welcome back thing. If you're have a welcome back party for example you don't throw a secret welcome back party before that.

I would, but you guys are probably right - since Billy is obviously doing this for the money and The Rex probably paid a handsome fee to book "The Revived SP's" first show back. (Which is the only reason I could see for even doing the first show in Paris) It's more than likely included in their contract that SP doesn't perform any shows before the Rex.

Well it can't be all about money, because at least according to SP's webmistress, SP turned down a lot of big offers (mostly likely Lola)

I don't mean to sound like a pissed off Chicago fan, but why would they turn down Lolla for V-Fest, of all festivals. For one, Lollapalooza is their hometown festival and they didn't have a problem with it when they headlined it more than 10 years ago. Secondly, V-Fest is supported by... Virgin, the record label that screwed them over.

i would love a secret gig show i vote to have it in my backyard lol but no i don't think its going to happen.

Starchildren was a side project of Billy's that released one EP. Your probably thinking about the Audio Vanguard Association of The Turnips (I think that was one of the names).

Starchildren did play a show though

So…with all the drama of those other kids stealing shit back at the Music Garage, I have been hesitant posting this, especially after someone posted a clip of a rehearsal because I was the only person there-besides band workers/security. I want to let everyone know, I had nothing to do with that clip, however, I can say that what you heard sounded legit to me, as I was at the congress on Tuesday night. I went over as soon as I saw the post on here that said something about a secret show at the Congress, I said “Fuck it, ill see if anything is going on”…and to my surprise, there wasJ. When I got back, I wrote this email to Davin, after that we talked on the phone for a bit. After several people encouraging me to post, I decided that I feel comfortable with posting now. Hope you all enjoy. I am posting this for you all to know that the Pumpkins are back! I did not see anything, only heard. I was standing on in the alley to the right of the front of the building, near the loading dock. As far as lineup, it sounded like Billy, Jimmy, guitar player, bass player, and they had a live person on Keys, (It was not a back recording because in between songs whoever was playing was playing around.)




I went to the Congress tonight, i stood outside the back for about an hour and a half (i was the only fan there). they are playing there, it was amazing. i heard about 5 new songs. When i walked up, i started to her something and i shit my pants, i was like "no way this is them" and i listened and it was "To Shiela"...i dont remember the exact order, but they played Cherub Rock, Tonight Tonight, Zero, Untitled (which did sound great live), Muzzle, Disarm (which Billy butchered vocally, it was just him, the guitar, and keys(strings). the last song i heard was Silverfuck, which they did a crazy fucking ending to the song. The new songs i heard sounds like classic pumpkins tunes. most were very heavy, i would say the sound is closer to siamese dream/mellon collie than anything on Machina. The band sounded tight, and to be honest, it doesnt matter who the other two people were. One song sounded extremely heavy, Billy was screaming (which honestly It sounded more like a shriek). i heard the song with the organ, its slower tempo'd. I couldnt really understand lyrics, but i remember something like "I need you, but you dont need me" So good, made me melt. Anyway, i secured my place by knocking on a neighbors door and asking if i could stand in their back yard in case security bothered me. While i was sitting out there, i talked to alot of security guards, who werent helpful, and didnt say anything. Then i saw Gooch walk up. He kept on looking at me, because i was laying/sitting down in this yard. He probably thought i was weird, as did everyone else who was at the back, but i said "arent you gooch?" he said "yeah"...i said "youre the pumpkins manager". he asked my name, so i told him. I said i was of no harm, just listening. He said as long as I wasn’t recording anything, that he was fine with me being out there. He walked over to me, and we talked for a bit. He asked if i heard what happened this past weekend, i told him yes. he said those kids were in jail, and he said everyone thinks they are dicks for arresting them, but they did wrong, and they broke into their place and stole. I told him i totally agreed. I asked if they pumpkins were playing here before paris, he told me no, and i said "its a little weird them coming back here before paris, since they recorded in LA"...he said they wanted to come home. he said Billy hadnt been home in a year, and wanted to spend some time here. I asked, When are they gonna announce who the other 2 are in the band, he told me he didn’t know, but that it didnt matter, because its the pumpkins. I agreed, i said it sounded like the pumpkins to me. he said they were hesitant on releasing the names because everyone would google the people, and then say "the new pumpkins album is gonna sound like this, or that"...so they have just said nothing. He said that the new people played amazingly, and the fans wouldnt be disappointed. I know i certaintly wasnt. I told him how good it is to hear the old tunes, he said "Yeah I know, it is for me too, its been a long time". He was so nice! anyway, this was one of the best nights of my life. I cannot wait for the tour, and honestly, i wouldnt be surprised if they ended up playing a show at the congress. Fans will not be disappointed, and the new material is great. I was hoping i could tell which one was tarantula. oh well. I was going to stay later, but they quit and i was getting tired. i figured i had stayed my course. im trying to think if i hear anything else. nothing off machina.



Anyway, hope you guys enjoy this. I can’t wait to hear Tarantula! Lets hope it is played on Monday!

Man, if this is real, that'll be a big letdown for me if they don't play any Machina songs for the live sets... They should at least play one of the three singles, and something off Adore...

it would be cool if they played something off machina, but I don't think it would be a letdown for me if they didn't... as long as the new songs are great...

Oh yeah, the guy did say To Shiela... Well I mean something more along the lines of Annie Dog, Pug, Ava Adore, or Tear. All good songs live. It'd be a shame not to have them as part of the set.

I think that's confirmed that there's no D'arcy or James... But that still sounds awesome... I really really hope they make there way to Australia. I'd love to hear Untitled live as well.
I don't know what the chances are of there being a secret show, but it sounds like the tour will be awesome.
