Their singer's voice kind of bothers me. It's probably ok music, but I just remember being put off by the vocals.

i don't classify emo how I probably should, that's why i don't refer to the pumpkins as emo

to me emo music is all sad and whiney, and the lead singer cries while he sings.

most of the pumpkins is very uplifting, or if anything, it's not necessarily sad to me, but more soothing or calming, and not depressing

Some SP song are really, really sad, and I can name a lot of them that have, at one point or another, made me cry.
I think angstful is a better way to describe SP. I guess SP is kind of uplifting for me also, because I feel instantly better when I listen to them because I love them so much.

hopefully it will b pretty awesome, but so what if its not, like its not as if most bands turn out the same way thy did when thy started. so like yea, thr probably gonna do somethin new, it wont ever be the same SP again,

anyhow, if u love billy, it wont make a diff, coz billy is billy, n his the man^^

These are interesting comments about the emo-ness of modern music and it is true, in the UK we have a channell called mtv2, not sure if you all have it in the US but it used to be good, it used to have all kinda of decent rock music, but now it is more or less ALL emo music, if you stay up really late you sometimes get some good music but it's mostly either emo or crappy bands who just are not good.

Smashing Pumpkins is NOT emo, I will die the day that Billy has an Emo fringe and is clinging onto the microphone screaming about how sad he is... *shudders*

That may be, but I think the emotion that he infused into his music was really genuine. Emo bands on the other hand seem to take every little disappointment in life (mostly romantic disappointment) and cry about it. That is really stupid. As such, I don't think that the Pumpkins are emo because they just aren't and will never be capable of that level of stupidity and mediocrity. Billy writes songs about life and all of its facets, not just sadness. Besides, the quality of his work and the Pumpkins' work obviously surpasses that of any emo band.

About the other stuff, I don't really care how well the album does commercially or any of that so long as the band goes about it however they want. It won't change anything except maybe the perceived commercial worth of the band, at least in the short term. Regardless of what happens it'll probably be an excellent album and I'll still buy it and see a show or two if I can.

Im prepared for them to record what they feel is good, and play what feels right. Wether one person thinks its 'bad' it'll be the next persons most favorite album ever.

Personal choice my friend, who can we say what is bad?

I think My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne are the biggest pile of shit to ever be farted out of the butt cheeks of life but people still buy thier albums...

but what about gerard way! it's billy's son! he can't be that much worse?
