good lord all these youngins that are fans. thats great and all but they don't seem to respect the songs that have deeper meaning and less heavy guitar riffs.

but yeah. anyone care to guess how old I am?

Anyone who says the word youngin is at least 80.

my dad calls me a youngin all the time, he's 48. its his phrase. but yeah anyways, age doesnt really seem to matter. The songs I prefered when I was 15 are still the songs I prefer today.

I would say your older just because you havent dropped the age thing and keep saying young people arent as deep as "older" people. I know plenty of older people who cant appreciate a beautifully written pumpkins song; people who prefer xyu to for martha. anyways, I havent noticed a difference at all.

That's kind of an unfair generalization. I'm 13 and I like just about everything from SP, but mostly Gish, Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie, and Adore...

OK so far I can see it seems that the older fans like a variety, with most (not all !) of the younger generation seeming to prefer the music with the heavier riffs.
To be honest this doesnt seem a massive surprise and sort of what I was half expecting in the replies.

When i try to introduce pumpkins songs to my friends: about 18, they seem to prefer the poppier songs like 1979 and today (with its guitar hook). I think its because Pumpkins music is generally pretty unique and so isn't that accessible to everyone.

I prefer the heavier songs over softer songs. I like the smashing guitar riffs because they are so unique and all hit me with a pang of emotion. SP music is meant to be played at their utmost loudest, I think. Also, songs with loud screams are my favorite (Bodies, for example). Songs with awesome solos are also my favorite (Geek U.S.A and Cherub Rock).

I'm 19 btw.

I hope you dont think that I disrespect all the pumpkin songs without heavy riffs, because its not true, I am just in a phase in my life that I like heavy songs the most, it doesnt happen only with the smashing pumpkins but with all the bands I am fanatic (not much anyway). I think I am not the only teenager here that thinks the same as me.

And hey, dross zero, just the fact that a song isnt heavy doesnt mean it has a deeper meaning than a song that is heavy, in the pumpkins case unfortunantly there arent much cases that heavy songs have a better lyric than another song that isnt heavy, but that doesnt happen with all the bands.

LOL folks lets use the Disrespect word a little less 8)
I reckon not many people here disrespect ANY song. Its just a question of preference
I like to thrash around to the heavier tracks myself after a s@*% day at work

I am 17 and i like more variety than most people i know. I like everything from the lightest of light such as sigur ross, to the heaviest of heavy such as mayhem and darkthrone. To classical, to jazz. Its unfair to say that simply because someone was born after you that they are therfore somehow less open minded.

Was that directed at me?
I'll have it known, I'm a true fan.

Re: Age and type of song fans prefer 1 Year, 5 Months ago
When I was in first year university, I was 18 but most of the other people around me were 19. I was coming from Manitoba to a school in Ontario, where there was no Grade 13 (it has since been eliminated in Ontario as a requirement). Anyways, I was at a get together for off-campus students early in the year, and I was a called youngen. Not by even 19 year olds but another 18 year old who was barely 2 months older than me! How does the even make sense?

I digress. I don't think that ultimately whether you like heavy SP songs or softer songs, or a mixture really has to do with age necessarily, but more to do with personal preference.

I dont think anybody has even suggested/commmented, on how open minded anybody is?
And my post which you quoted is just a general observation and which i did put in brackets (NOT ALL) to cover people like yourself.
Its just a general observation and I dont think its an unfair one at that. Certainly no negativity towards anyone is implied in the observation.
It would be like someone calling all thrash metal fans idiots, which just isnt the case !!
Lets take a step back from getting angry at posts and chill out 8)
