Ok first I want to say that I don't want to go too far in a religious argument, for this is not the appropriate place for this kind of debate.
I also totally understand what Aron & Dale_By_Blimp meant in their respective posts.
However, I'd just like to stress the point that not believing in God is not enough to make you an atheist. If you think that there is no God, that humankind was not created by a supernatural omniscient and omnipotent force, well, great! that means you're free from any kind of credulity and able to think by youself. But you cannot continue at the same time to follow a tradition (be it Catholic, Protestant or Jewish) which is a religious tradition. If you want to be an atheist, you have to think over your whole conception of life, and stop following traditions that can only be false to your new conception of the world, i.e. a world without God.
I was raised in a Protestant family, and very rapidly understood that I didn't believe in any of their principles. So when I was 16 I told my parents I was not interested in their religion and that I did not even believed in God. Since then, I considered myself as an atheist. And for instance, just an example, when I have lunch at my mom's, she says her prayer, but I do not lower my head, and I will never ever say 'Amen'. For I don't believe in that.
A book that is worth being read: The Antichrist by Friedrich Nietzsche
I can relate completely to this last post of yours. While I was raised in the tradition and therefore (for argument's sake) considered myself of the faith, I do not engage in any religious rituals, I do not belive in one creator God (nor am I polythestic), religion does not seem like an attractive concept to me. It is worth noting though, that some of my contemporaries are offended by this attitude.
I'm glad we're (more or less) on the same page, and thanks for the recommendation, I've been meaning to look into the work of Nietzsche.

I realy dont understand why everyone seems to be so negative towards christianity, why do you find it so offensive that someone believes something different to you?

People who claim they are one religion and do not believe in God, maybe they're in it for the culture, or for the family tradition of it. Like what Aron said, Jewish but not religious. I know a lot of people like that, that religion has a lot of culture and family tradition in it (as most religions do).
Just a thought.

Well said, I'm a Christian and just because that I believe we are here by intelligent design rather than evolving from monkeys doesn't make me a bad person or crazy.

Let's be fair, I don't think any of us are putting Christianity 'down' as such, just saying that its not for us. Its not a matter of being offended, its just that we're not interested.

Does anyone have a recording of this new song yet? I heard they played it at the beginning of the last show and it's a rocker
Wow! To think that that post has brought us to the point we are at now, talking about the place of religion in the world and the like.

the beginning sounds way to much like united states for me...
p.s. i don't know what i believe but what i do know is there has to be a God. i can not live with the thought of when i die, there is nothing. oh and i don't believe in evolution because it takes more faith to believe that then in God. i mean if we evolved, why would there still be other creatures on this earth? and adaption is dumb. seriously... but i'll stop there since this is indeed about a song....

Superchrist almost sounds like a weird mutation of United States.

What I don't like about Superchrist is that it seems to based almost entirely around the open C#, very basic and generic.

Only the beginning ?? it sounds like united states the entire song! it's good i suppose since united states is one of the best songs in Zeitgeist but that and the repetitive sound of it (which works in united states) let me down, of course was merely played live once maybe if it evolves somehow in something else i could like it, has potential even if it sounds too much as united states
About Billy rubbing up his religion in this song, think again, i don't see how you guys took it as reference of his religion even if it has "christ" in the title ... i mean it's just the title isn't like some of his lyrics, i think it's just a way of playing around with possibilities until he came up with the superchrist thing that just happen to be a religious word as the result, that's all

Religious connotations didn't even enter my head until I read this thread. Then of course, I got involved in the debate ... "silly me", as the song goes.
