Smashing Pumpins- Family Approved? 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Would you say that SP is family-approved? My mom just asked me if the lyrics have to do with cutting. I said no, but I'm not sure. Is that what "Disarm" refers to when the lyrics go "Cut you like you want me to cut that little child"? God, it's so stupid when people think that lyrics may influence someone to do something stupid (BTW, I'm the exact opposite of someone who would be cutting).

Anyone been in the same kind of situation?

Nope, it was actually my mom who was into the Pumpkins before I was, like in the mid-90s. I eventually got into them by listening to her copies of MCIS and SD, and when she stopped listening to the Pumpkins (God knows why!) I got to keep 'em!

I would say the majority of Smashing Pumpkins songs can be considered family friendly, while others might make you want to slit your wrists and die a whore.

My dad likes the Pumpkins, but only because he sees the quality in their music. He always points out Jimmy's awesome drumming when I'm listening to SP in the car.

Why not Christmastime?

Or if you like The Marked, Christmas song "Bop bop bop bop, bop bop bop bop it's christmastime"

Well I guess at times, SP is family approved. Other times, no.
When I was younger, my mom always thought that my attitude would be influenced by the music I listened to....which is crap...XD

The only song my parents really approve by SP is "1979". Go figure.

there's no way to make my parents listen to the Pumpkins , so i stop trying
the best i can get is ask my father not to change the radio station when one of their song is played, that's when we are in the car...better than nothing

I never really tried
why should someone would like to have their fathers as their festival headbangers pals?

I think most of SP would pass the family test. I never had the family issue since SP became really big when I was in college, although in those days my parents tolerated their fair share of Pumpkins when I was home on break
