album gaps should be two or three years

Lest we forget the '60s and '70s, when it was customary to release an album every six MONTHS. And there was no loss of quality in most (good) bands' material.

Still, you're right - two years does seem customary these days. How sustainable that cycle is in this day of Internet omnipresense is yet to be seen though. I admire what the band Ash is doing - from now on, they're only releasing digital music, whenever they feel like it because for so many music listeners the standard album (regrettably) is dead.

It's obvious that songs like 99 floors and all the rest were written because Billy HAD to write them, he had kind of promised the fans that he would give them insight into his process of creation during these residency shows... He probably forced these songs out of himself, and whether they are good or not doesn't really matter to him, he's not going to re-use them anyway (I think).

And no, Rivers Cuomo, technically speaking you can't call these songs 'b-sides'. A b-side is a song that was originally written for an album, but did not make it onto that album because there were other songs that sounded better.

Not that any of this really matters, I would also love to see a new album very soon (yes, an acoustic album would be very nice! I have never heard anything acoustic by the pumpkins that I didn't like, I think they are at their best when they play acoustic). But I don't think that's gonna happen really soon. But hey, I'm not tired of Zeitgeist yet!

Honestly i think that there will be a DVD release in early 2008 or 2007 (in time for xmas and the shopping that follows) and no other releases for a couple of years so NEW album 2009 or 20010

You're right! I have always thought that adore was from 97, never really took a look at the cd. Anyway, this means that Billy didn't respect the 3yearsrule between Adore ('98) and Machina (2000). But it doesn't really matter. Well, maybe if they would have spent a little more time working on Machina, it would have been a better album... who knows?

Ginger said there will absolutely be more tour dates in 2008, including South America and Australia. (So the Big Day out rumors are probably true.)

Once a band becomes more established (and the members older) gaps between albums do get longer as the band takes more time out between tours and studio etc.
Id guess this time round though Billy will want to turn around a new album quicker than he normaly would have done if SP had carried on and not already had a 7year break
IMO I think we might get a 2 year gap this time round.
