Billy: And Jimmy is going to ride in a Rocketship with fire shooting out the back.
Jimmy: Ok!
Jimmy agrees to do anything in videos.
It's too true! I love the commentary on the SIYL video. Jimmy's like, "So then I'm in this giant hoop skirt. Okay, sure." What a pushover, haha.
That said, I actually really like the TTWMLI video. I like the gauzy sheen on it, and the fact that even Lisa is getting ample screen time.

I think this vid is the bands worst to date! I really hope the vid for the next single is good. I kinda liked the video for Tarantula. Just because the Pumpkins are your favorite band, doesn't mean you can't criticize their work. Worship the music, not the musicians. I dunno. It seems Billy just went out with a big budget and said lets make a mainstream video. I thought this video looks like a cross between a Linkin Park video and a destiny's child video. BUT WOW! Anyone see Ginger's ass? Shit that dress thing was short!

I don't think it's an awful video, it's quite okay, but a lot of people are misunderstanding the "silliness".
When I watch the beginning of the clip, I kind of get the impression that billy would make a great actor!

I'm totally biased, Billy and the pumpkins are now a part of my DNA and anything they do just feels like home. HOWEVER, yes, I loved the clip (i've only watched it once so far - my opinion may change).
The way I see it, this song is Billy declaring his love for us. Billy is saying that, despite what the critics say, he has faith that his fans will embrace him and The Pumpkin's resurrection. As long as he is alive, he will have a place in his heart for The Smashing Pumpkins and all the fans he forged during the first era of the band, and he's asking us to find that place in our hearts which he filled during the 90's. He has faith that we won't ignore him. He's invigorated by the rebirth of The Pumpkins, and is asking us to return the love which he has for us, that has driven him to reunite the band.
In the clip Billy starts off by calling the band together. They assemble at a vast (think cosmic) stadium and then proceed to rock out for us. Because that's the way his love is.
And I know my heart swelled when I heard they were coming back, and again when every bit of news come out about the new album, and I know that my heart will come close to bursting should Billy ever get his ass to Australia so I can rock out with him.

I hadn't considered the idea that the band being called together in the video was symbolic of the real reunion--even though it's not a full on reunion (but that's another conversation entirely). Still, it's a rather weak concept. If that's what was intended, then it puts too much focus on the band and not on the song itself.

I'm not really hot about the actual final product for the video, but I definitely think that in the hands of another director this video could have been great. Alot of the shots are just plain ol' bad. I don't like how billy is talking and stuff while the song is going on... it just doesn't really work. The whole contacting eachother thing could have been more subtle and the green screen shit was just way too overdone, but I really believe the concept is great.

i'm really glad that theres been a reunion and everything, and its happened at just the right time for me, cause i got into the pumpkins just last year (and i already have EVERY album by them) but i have to agree with what someone furthur up said about the rushed artisticness... it doesnt seem to have as much energy as what it used to. just kinda ho-hum-ish.
i know im "living in the past", but come on, its hard not to.

Especially so when you know, for a fact, that Billy and co. have the smarts and the resources to pull out something that would trump even "Stand Inside Your Love" (an artistic triumph, in my opinion)...but, in the end, simply choose not to. Why? I wish I knew. I've always been an avid supporter of Billy, the new line-up, and the new album, but the videos? I have to admit, I'm not a fan. Overuse of the green screen is just asking for trouble.
Was this director forced upon the band, or did they hand-pick him themselves? If not, why didn't they resist him with every fiber of their being? These videos, while not being all-together bad (conceptually, anyway), don't represent the songs nearly as well as they should - as every long-time Pumpkins fan expects them to.

very true, these videos are no tonight, tonight, siyl, or ava adore. but that's the way was at least interesting to watch. right? tarantula and that's the way are both decent videos but as pumpkins fans, we do expect more because we've gotten more in the past.
