mine didn't make it. the winner didn't even do the whole song...and he actually submitted 3 versions. the first one was only 1:25 (the contest required at least 2:00)....then after the submission deadline, he submitted a 2:00 version, and now the winning version is 2:32. so I don't know what's going on.

don't get me wrong, his video is AWESOME.....but I think he should be required to do the whole song at least in order to win.....

oh well...it sure was fun!

To be honest, pretty much all the videos are better than the official videos.

The top 3 are very good, I prefer the top one then the 3rd one then the 2nd one.

Sucks that the winner didn't actually do the whole song, but kudos for winning all the same.

Agreed...the fan-made videos were, by and large, better than the genuine article. Who knows? Maybe that was the intention all along.

To be honest, some of the winners were my least favorites, including the winner--whose video reminded me of a Linkin Park scene.

I thought the winner did a great job and i really liked it....but WTF he/she didn't do the whole thing???? i thought it was an error in upload or on my comp. that really shouldn't count at all. second place was good too i thought (especially since the whole song was done). but I think i would rather have a zeitgeist skinned iPhone than a Mac Pro anyways (even though the Mac is like 4 times the value).

i think the winner should have been honorable mention, but not actually win anything cause the whole song wasn't done.

And as a whole, I like what the Pumpkins is doing with this project by allowing the fans to edit the video and such. But is this a project that had been planned from the beginning? Because if that's the case... then for a first single from a band that's been gone for nearly a decade, I think I would have enjoyed a solid, strong video with some foundation to it than this.

Don't get me wrong. This is a great idea and a fun event for fans, but I think for the second video it would have been better. I just feel the Pumpkins lost their chance at impacting the scene by creating another killer video that would circulate regularly on shows like "nocturnal state" or the late night video progams--which are quite popular these days, regardless of the dying music video age.

I'm just ranting, but I still feel this band isn't breaking waves like they should right now. Sure "Tarantula" might have scaled the rock charts and sure the album debuted at number 2, but does anyone really care that the Pumpkins are back? I feel like they needed more promotion, to be honest, and should have maybe clipped to a younger audience through Conan (rather than the aging and dying show of Letterman) and maybe hit up a more integral music festival that pertains to the music scene rather than that corporate feel (e.g. Lollapalooza vs. Virgin). Then again, Voodoo and Bang might help, but I'm talking a bigger and more widespread fest such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, or even ACL. Lollapalooza would have been a better idea, in my book, than Virgin Fest.

Maybe I'm just nuts... whatever. Haha. I just feel like they're "phoning" a lot of this in. And I also feel a lot of the questions directed at them are answered in such a fashion that they actually work around the question without ever really answering them.

music videos as a whole are a dying art in my opinion. they could have made the greatest video ever and it would have still gone largely un-noticed. the other thing to remember is what was going on when they shot this footage...they didn't have a lot of time to spend on making a video because they toured Europe, came back to the states, then had about 2 or 3 days before they had to be in Asheville for the first show....the video was shot during those couple of days. that's why I think the "official" version is so weak and pieced together....

but anyway...it irks me that the winner didn't do the whole song. I think that should have been a requirement. I don't want to sound like a whiny baby about it...I realize it is what it is and the contest is over and I didn't win...but I don't see how it's fair to give the grand prize to a half-finished video.

The winning video was ok but I dont see how it tied into the song - cool effects but to me it just looked like Tarantula meets "Need for Speed 3".

Wow, the guy that came first was sooooo much better than the official video its almost frightening how much better it is.

I think this contest was a mistake, its just allowed people to show how pathetic the tarantula video was. And how it could have been done properly

The winning video in that contest was great, the style of the vid was maybe a bit different to what is usually the feel to a pumpkins video but it looks to me like that guy took real attention to detail and I thought the lighting effects where excellent (on saying that I dont have any clue how to make a video in this way, so dont know how easy/difficult it is). The fact he did not finish it, is not ideal but not that bad a thing.

I wasnt very keen on the original tarantula video to start with but it has grown on me a little its far from there best video but has a low fi, indie feel to it and looks a bit like a LSD filtered tv performance, I am laughing out loud..

I agree that was kind of lame that they would choose a video that was only a portion of the full song. The original video I made was very high quality and over a gig in size, so if I would have saw that we could only submit part of it to youtube and win i would have still done it.

But I had to reduce the quality of the video and sound to get it under 100mb for youtube.
