heavy metal machine 1 Year, 2 Months ago
oh

my

god!

the 12 minute heavy metal machine on the aol sessions is fucking incredible.

i always thought that song had potential to really rock but it never quite got there in the album form. this is the way this song should have been all along.

absolutely ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. I think it's awesome. I can't stop listening to it.
However, I think instead of making a new Heavy Metal Machine, Billy should have taken some of the riffs to make new songs.

I agree. I love the way that Billy alters songs to fit the different forms of the pumpkins; but this one seems a little too different. Dont get me wring - i love it, but the same song with different lyrics could have been an entirely new zeitgeist song.

there's really very little about it that's the same. some of the lyrics and the basic riff of the chorus is it. i kinda see it as an entirely new song anyway.

either way, it's amazing.

Yeah, I really like the version on aol. The original album version was always one of my least favourite SP songs. Although not as bad as the alternate version on Machina 2. Nice to see they actually managed to make something good from it, even if it bares little resemblance to the original song anyway.

Yeah I've been listening to it pretty much non-stop... It's just so energetic and amazing, and Billy's screams in it are just... Wow.
I've always liked how the Pumpkins reinvent their songs so they don't get stale over time. I prefer this version of Heavy Metal Machine a lot to the original Machina verison.

Agreed, everyone. Of all the songs on Machina, I'd have to say that H.M.M. is my least favorite (or perhaps The Imploding Voice); however, that really doesn't say much considering the fact that, if indeed I picked favorites when it came to pumpkins albums (I don't), Machina would be at the top of the list.

The Sessions recording, though...holy hell.

To everyone who thought the Pumpkins couldn't flourish with the new line-up: the Sessions tracks, most notably H.M.M., is the sound of a band at the very top of their game! The chemistry evident in these Sessions gives me alot of hope for their next album.

Ah! I can't wait until they stop touring and settle down to write the thing. Release this new H.M.M. as a B-side, or something - I wouldn't complain!

Maybe I get too enthusiastic sometimes.

I totally agree. I'm most impressed by Jimmy's drumming on those sessions, especially the end of Superchrist where he's just tearing it up.

Yeah speaking of no one linking the HMM on Machina. I never got a kick out of it, and yet HeavyMetalMachine is my screen name... yes, odd. I guess I just thought the name sounded cool

But now it has a whole new meaning 'cause the live version is awesome!

The cool thing about the AOL HMM is that Jeff's guitar is actually turned up louder than Bill'ys for once and is does the same amount if not more solos. It may seem that Billy is starting to give over some of his control to the other members - which can only be a good thing.

I've seen Superchrist & Heavy Metal Machine II live. Superchrist didn't sound exactly like the AOL session, I guess cus it was still in embryonic form, it as alot shorter.
Heavy Metal Machine blew my balls off live & everyone around me just stood with their mouthes open .

Of course. It's just that the quality is better than any other live playing. So it's easy to hear every detail.
