Mellon Collie is the pinnacle of music from the 1990's. I can't think of one album from anybody between 1990 and 2000 that was better. It's absolutley timeless, and amazes me still to this day.

that comes to mind for obvious reasons. and not to downgrade nevermind...because it IS a great album. and in terms of its long-lasting impact on the world of rock n roll, nevermind probably wins out, but if you look at it from the perspective of the complexity, the talent, the musicianship, the songwriting, etc., there's just nothing I can think of that even gets close to MCIS.

Yeah. thats basicly what i ment. I totally agree with you.
Both albums have impacted the 90's for various reasons.
But, as you said, when it comes to the talent of creating the music all together. nothing even compares to MCIS

MCIS is my favourite album of all-time, not just the 90s. Nothing can touch it, and sadly I don't think SP will come close to that standard ever again.

I agree. MCIS and Siamese Dream are my all time favorite albums. If Smashing Pumpkins ever make another CD like MCIS or Siamese Dream it'll be the best day of my life. However, I know the chances of that are extremely slim.

Siamese Dream is awesome too, but I don't think even that comes close to the standard of MCIS - it's 2 hours of pure genius.

I'd say, as far as 90s albums go, it's barely edged out by one other: Siamese Dream.

Adore is my fav album of all time: but I have to agree that MCIS is THE album of 90s alternatve rock - its scale, vision and deliverence is incredible,- its basically epitomises everything about Alt rock and genius songwriting.

Don't be so glum. One never knows what the future holds, right?
The 90's were a musical renaissance to begin with...the fact that MCIS stands alone as the pinnacle of that renaissance says alot, I think.
It's amazing how just one decade can be so good for music yet so destructive at the same time...

I've always had this theory about music...about how it's defined in decades. think about it...all the way back to the 1940's or so, each decade has had its own unique sound that was so radically different than the decade before it. the swing style of the 40's, bubble gum drive-in diner rock songs of the 50's, psychadelic hippie rock in the 60's, arena guitar rock of the 70's, electronic pop-rock of the 80's, alt grunge rock in the 90's......and then we hit 2000. what do we define this decade with? cookie-cutter hip hop and pop where they sing in made up words and talk about nothing but sex? IMO, music took a step forward with every decade until we got to 2000, and it's been a major step back. as we approach the next decade, I hope there's a revolution of sorts musically that pushes us right back into an era like the 90's when so much radically different, yet incredibly talented and absolutely amazing music was coming out. billy, jimmy....it's time to start the revolution!
revolution blues....what will they do to me?
