I agree. In fact, I have loved every single form of HMM. I love the Machina version (because the lyrics and chorus are very passionate and strong), I love how they played it live in 2000 (especially the June 2000 show in Budokan), and I love the 2007 new version as well. I'll take it any way they'll give it!!

i just went back to watch that budokan performance on youtube....man, thanks for reminding me about that one! fucking awesome!!! his screams rule in that song. and melissa is absolutely where it's at. I'm officially on the replace ginger with melissa bandwagon now. she's got SOOOO much more energy and presence. even more presence than darcy ever had IMO.

Heavy Metal Machine is one of my favorite songs live. My favorite version has to be from 2000 live from Musique Plus in Montreal.
I have a love/ hate relationship with this new version.
I love Jeff's solo right out of the gate. Sets the stage for the song good. The new vocal melody is lacking IMO - the way Billy sings the "if I was dead, would my records se-eeel" is annoying me.. I don't know how to put it.
I would've liked to see more of the original song elements in there. In the Musique Plus version for example, with Billy just standing in the crowd repeating the main riff... I fell in love with that the first time I heard it and to this day I still love it.
With that being said, there's nothing wrong with this new version. That's the things with the Pumpkins - watching the evolution of their songs per era really is really impessive - that's talent and dedication right there.

Heh. I guess I am in the minority. HMM was my least favorite song on Machina. And while I like the new touring version, 5-6 minutes is enough for me. I actually start tuning out during the last few minutes. This is such a shame, because the guitars and drums are totally amazing. I just think they overkill it a bit.

This is the performance that actually got me to appreciate HMM. The ending in this performance is just epic. Just bare with his whiney machina voice till the final riff.
But to be more on topic.... the aol sessions version was alright, It dragged on for me in some parts. i do agree tho that he could've made an entirely different song out of it.
