Best of The Cover Songs 1 Year, 1 Month ago
alright, i have been listening to some of the cover songs in the section and i LOVE some of them

of the ones i listened to my favorites are

CameraEye (Lucky Day Spa) and Shame (Forva)

awhile ago i listened to cherub rock (not the one with the most hits) and i thought it was great- cool solo

What other songs are really excellent?

-hope this doesnt hurt anyone's feelings if they are not recommended

1979 by orbital58 - One of the best covers around.
Zero (acoustic) (thegreatwasabi)
I also remember liking a Starla cover, but don't remember which one.

I love, love, love, these two. I would have never expected an acoustic version of Zero to sound so good.
There was a Mayonaise cover that was very good as well me thinks...

That was pretty good. Norbert Kristof (aka karatedog) who covered "1979" on Ghost Children 2 had done a good cover of "Bodies" as well but he doesn't have it on his myspace anymore.

I wonder when people will start to cover Zeitgeist songs. There is something in it for them if they do (hint: look at the pinned post I made).

I'm still wowed by Sebastian A. Bach's acoustic cover of "Stand Inside Your Love" off the original Ghost Children. (He's an old buddy of mine, but the bloke definitely deserves his due!)

And my old band, Student Driver, did a cover of "Ugly". It's not great but it's got its charm, if you guys want to hear it.

Ah yes Student Driver. I don't remember the cover all that well but I do remember the name. My brother Steven should have it along with most of the other demos that have been submitted to us over the years on a cd-r or dvd-r somewhere.

Speaking of Sebastian, I remember there being some confusion, as his cover of "Stand Inside Your Love" was on the same tape as a cover by Sebastian's Moon of "Hummer". So we thought it was both Sebastian's Moon but then at the time they were just friends with each other, and the band was only named after Sebastian. But years later I think he briefly had joined them (I could be mistaken). It was a bit confusing at the time .

Another thing I remember is a guy submitting a demo tape of himself only doing the drumming parts to Pumpkins songs, and some of the Billy Corgan Ransom soundtrack songs. That was a bit weird to hear. I am not sure why he thought he could audition for the concert that way. He probably should have just asked to post an e-mail or something that he was a drummer available to join a band in his area to record some demos or play with them at the first Act IV if chosen.

I always loved the one man acoustic cover of Eye. Can't remember that guy's name, but it was pretty cool.

Wish there had been an Act IV tour. I would have definitely gone to see that.

Oh you mean Rob Paterson:

Yeah I know there were a few other people who would have liked that but really Metro was the only club that would allow us to do it, and they wouldn't even green light another one unless there was a big headliner involved (which is really hard to get when you are not embedded in the music scene), considering the 2nd concert sold half-capacity only. Also, we would have to have some major sponsorship to be able to get the different bands to travel from place to place. Most of the bands involved spending a lot of money just to travel to Chicago to play in the show.

Yeah that's the one. He did a good job, very unique.

I know a tour would be logistically and financially impossible. It’s a shame though. In light of all the myspace covers and other bands doing Pumpkins covers, you would think a big headliner wouldn’t be that hard to get. It would’ve been really cool to have 10-20 city (small clubs in the Midwest) tour with a handful of the Act IV artists and two or three of the bands that did myspace covers as headliners. The headliners could even play a small set of their own material and just throw their Pumpkins cover in the mix. I know I’d go see that.

As for sponsors, maybe Spin would have something to do with it, since they did the myspace thing. Plus if the SP community got behind it, who knows it could be a success.

…and you could sell more Ghost Children CD’s at the shows! And the Make-A-Wish foundation would benefit as well.

See the thing is that I have absolutely no connections, and apparently no motivational skills to sell the last 100 GC2 cds. Plus, Spin only came into the picture for that other tribute because the Pumpkins were back and it was attached to Myspace as well.

Even if only 1% of the online fanbase likes Act IV, you would have thought we would been able to sell a total of 200 cds in a year on our own!

Thanks!
Yeah, thats how I played that part.

Well, for effects I used a bit of flanger chorus and delay.
I did a bend in certain parts of the song which aren't in the original acoustic recording. And then there were a few other slight changes I made.
But the tuning used in the song is really nice. The notes harmonize very well together.

I just listened to the "1979" and now listening the "Sound of Love" cover. I knew orbital58 sounded familiar. The cover is pretty good. His real name is Mike Hamilton, and he along with a different singer and some other musicians recorded a cover of "To Sheila" for Ghost Children 2 actually.

Over at the Act IV site you can hear a short clip from it (30-45 seconds) and can listen to a podcast they recorded discussing the song and other things. www.act4.net/ghostchildren2.htm
