My parents pretty much dislike any music I listen to, apparently it's all satanic and devilworshipping when I don't think they've ever actually sat down and just listening to a Pumpkin song.. Oh well..

Well my mom got me into music. She likes heavier stuff than I do! But, she listens to underground music now, "undiscovered" bands. Which is cool with me. She also got me into Sonic Youth, her favorite band. So I don't worry about that stuff with my mom. Or my dad, although he can be a religious fanatic sometimes...But he doesn't know who I listen to (or things of that nature) so I don't worry about him either. But, if my little brother is around, I try to skip the songs that have certain words or phrases and such (which is more than what mom does, lol)

What Sonic Youth album do you recommend. Ever since I got into the Pumpkins about a month ago, I've been wanting to go deeper into 90s alt rock. Should I get Daydream Nation?

I like Daydream Nation, and with that yes. But, I also like Rather Ripped. That's the one I've been listening to lately. You can really go either way.

O My God, My mom doesnt think anymusic is appropriate for me. She likes a few Smashing Pumpkins songs , like to shelia, MCIS, Landslide, + if there is a god (Piano/ Vox). My Computer backround was a picture of the smashing pumpkins, and she saw billy with makeup on and she said, Are these Smashin Pumpkins appropriate for you??/ so i said yes mom. Onetime we were listening to Pink floyd's "Hey You" and when they said naked she said, turn this off but i am like NO!!!! Also i showed her BWBW and since it was a rather heavy song, she said, this is innopropriate!!! But i showed her it wasnt.

Seeing as I'm twelve and I come from a Christian family and my dad got me into the pumpkins, i guess they're ok but you might want to marker out one certain song title if you happen to buy siamese dream

That's funny because I read the back of Siamese Dream for the first time when I was five and Mom never did anything like that, heh. And I appreciate it now that I cuss all the time! (just kidding, of course...or am I?)

i actualy think that goo is their best.
and in response to the forum topic, yes, i think the pumpkins are family friendly, people before were saying that you shouldnt listen to songs like zero because of christian parents, well im a pretty strong christian myself and it doesnt offend me, because i understand what billy truly meant, you just have to explain what he truly meant to you family. Billy is a christian himself (maybe in his own way but still....), so i think that it would be hard for it not to be family friendly if they truly understood the meaning of the pumpkins.

My dad listened to a lot of the pumpkins back in 91 when I was about 6 or 7 and I always liked what I heard and then in 93 I remember him playing siamese dream and it was halloween and we were carving pumpkins and he kept saying "Smashing Pumpkins" I didnt get it at the time, but looking back it was pretty funny. My family is very into music so there was never any issues about the whole appropriate thing. I feel bad for kids that have to deal with that. Thants a bummer.

XYU isnt family friendly. day dream wouldnt really. disarm is about billy's childhood so 'cut that little child' should be taken literally, its to do with emotions i think.

I would say the majority of Smashing Pumpkins songs can be considered family friendly, while others might make you want to slit your wrists and die a whore.
Whooaaa Murder, I've never seen this side of you...Die A Whore??? That's Pretty Harsh bro.
