D'arcy and James in Audience? 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
On the archive.org Smashing Pumpkins collection, I found this comment for the 10-15-07 show in Boston. What do you suppose it means?
"Thanks. This was a great show. Particularly cool because d'arcy and james were in the audience for the first time on this tour and they played a triple encore!! Great crowd, great band, awesome show."

I have seen this discussed a few times on other SP related message boards and the general consensus is that it is b.s. If they really were at a show more people would notice them. If the guy who posted the show is telling what he believes is the truth, he probably saw people either trying to look like them or mistook some random Asian guy and blond white girl who were together for James and D'arcy.
I recall seeing posts of people claiming they saw Billy at a restaurant in Chicago back in 2001, but at the time Billy was on tour with New Order in the UK . It's just because the person in that case saw a tall bald guy and thought it was Billy.

Well there's nothing besides some torrent person saying it, so I'd say it's b.s.

Yeah I remember reading about that, but I seriously doubt that happened. We have conflicting information though. Jimmy mentioned something about communicating through e-mail with James. Meanwhile, James claims he was never asked at all. No mention of that meeting they supposedly had by either of them. Wasn't it just mentioned in one alternatively weekly in NY and that was about it? Perhaps someone made the same mistake others have, mistaking people from afar as the real deal.

I agree with Eye, at the Fillmore shows there were TONS of D'arcy and James look-a-likes.
I also saw some chick in a Target who looked DEAD-ON to D'arcy. I actually froze right there and almost went up to her to tell her how much I love her-being the freak that I am. But then again D'arcy doesn't look like she did back in 96 and she's a lot taller than this girl that I saw.
Also, Jimmy did mention in Modern Drummer about why James isn't in the band:
MD: By the way, how come The Pumpkins' original members, James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky, weren't involved with the new record?
Jimmy: They didn't want to be a part of this. We had asked James early on if he was interested but he said no. I was mystified at first, but it's clear now.
So apparently they contacted James but not D'arcy.

Is this a direct quote?
I never actually read the interview, but I don't remember anyone bringing up this statement before.

god dangit I wish we could get an interview with james. It's too bad we couldn't arrange a fan interview. Those are always great.

If I knew who James' "people" were, I'd totally pursue an interview. Maybe Scratchie could help a sister out?
But even if I did manage to contact him, I'd bet the reluctance to discuss SP would be mega high.

Maybe we could get in touch with scratchie. Maybe if we promised not to ask any of those obvious questions he would consider it haha.
the obvious ones being... WHY DIDNT YOU COME BACK JAMEZ? DO YOU HAET BILLY?
etc.
we could ask him about scratchie, his solo work, maybe some non-painful sp stuff...like what his favorite album was, etc.
What do you think Trillian? Would we have any chance? I'll help you out of you think we would.

I think you would be more likely to get an interview with Adam Scheslinger than James Iha. James would probably just assume that SP questions would be asked and say no.
