Archive material, I thought that was supposed to be a ultra-secret project....

How in-depth do they get into the archival material? From what I have heard, it is quite extensive.

Billy doesn't say.
I know they have a lot of material in the "Pumpkins attic." Let's just hope they follow through this time.

Ah ok. I am not sure if I can really say anything but since SP is talking about it, I might as well say something . I am not involved with the band obviously but I have a colleague that is in periodic contact with the person charged with doing the archive project (you may be able to figure it out from one of my other recent replies to topics). It is supposed to be everything that has been unreleased, not sure if that is counting stuff already leaked online, authorized and unauthorized(ie Billy's Gravity Demos, Machina Acoustic Demos, etc). I am not sure when the project was started but it's supposed to take a couple of years.

This is somewhat exciting...I can't really tell yet. Some of what they were saying seemed like "brainstorming" ideas that will never hold any weight. I mean a Pre-Gish tour??? Sounds like Billy gibberish to me. I think they sensed sort of a lull, so it was time to stir the pot. But if they actually deliver on this then HELL YEAH. A new album along the lines of Siamese Dream/MCIS and releasing it as they record sounds awesome.

Pre-Gish tour? That sounds like one of my friends ideas where he thought it would be best for SP to go on different tours, one for each era.
I will have to give this radio thing a listen.

That's exactly what they are talking about doing. Small club tours for all the different eras.

Yeah I just listened to it. My friend had that idea like 3 years ago. And I thought it wasn't such a great idea. I mean relegating yourself to one era exclusively is kind of limiting. Although I suppose it will bring out fans that only liked SP up to a certain point out.

A bunch of people thought thats what the residencies would be like. Gish one night, SD the next, etc. I think it's an ok idea, but your right it does limit your material, and I would have to think a Pre-Gish or Gish show would be rather short.

If they are really going to do that sort of stuff, it might be better to group some of the stuff together. Like play Pre-Gish and Gish stuff together; then a SD and Pisces tour; MCIS and TAFH; Adore and anything post-MCIS but pre-Machina-Eye, The End is the Beginning is the End, etc; then a Machina and Machina II tour (including demos that never made it past that stage-eg. "Laugh", throw some Arising! versions of Machina songs in there too).

I don't like the idea of the mini-tours limited to each era of the band. if that's the goal, you've got to have darcy and james. From day one of the zeitgeist era I've been on board with the band lineup and haven't been one of these "I miss darcy and james" people, but it would just seem so faked to me to see billy come out in the silver pants and zero shirt with ginger and jeff up there playing MCIS songs.
billy always talks about how they want to look and move forward, and never try to do something they've already done, so this just doesn't make sense.
mini-tours in clubs similar to what they did with the arising tour? absolutely.
limiting the tours to the different past eras of the band? no way!

Aren’t they doing that now?
So it's ok for them to play MCIS era songs on the current tour, but if they want to go a little more in depth...OH GOD NO THAT'S BLASPHEMY! And I don’t think Billy mentioned anything about silver pants and a zero shirt.

I think your taking that out of context. He’s said things along the lines of “we want to focus on the future, while honoring and not forgetting the past.”
