Re:Zeitgeist (Album of the Year Edition) Draw/Cont 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Well considering the reaction it got after someone else posted, I think it was good that I didn't. There are many Netphorians that have nothing but nasty things to say about Act IV. Even one person referred to me and Steven as "the Pukin weirdos" back in 2001. Although that may have been on the AMSP, which I found after awhile was even worse than Netphoria is. It was even to the point one jerk was trying to allude to false claims of incest.

Not everyone has to like Act IV projects, but it gets ridiculous when people bash things for the sake of it. I know that Netphorians tend to be predominantly negative in general, but when it comes to Act IV it sometimes seems more than usual.

Anyways, I just thought I would let you know if you are planning on submitting a song for the Zeitgeist cover song contest/draw we have going, one of your fellow SP fans has offered to mix your songs for free. Mixing can enhance the sound of your songs.

The person offering is Cam (Music mit Senf on myspace, SlingerGuitaro on various SP fan boards). He is the one who mixed the first submission for the contest, "Ma Belle" by the Netphoria All-Stars.

Here is a demonstration of his work:
here is the original cover version of ma belle: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2dfDKTIGLVY

and Cam's remix:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hbmp2udI340

So feel free to request his services if you are so inclined. It can go along way to help the sound, especially if you have purists that reject your covers because they feel it doesn't enough like it belongs on a CD. So you can cover your bases that way

If you want to submit your own cover, please go to
http://www.thepumpkins.net/zeitgeist_contest_upload

Please read all the rules, prizes, and incentive information before submitting your cover.

rock on,
David

Hey, dont count the rest of us out yet

Very nice cover, vocals are great!

The drums ruin it for me through, Im very picky about midi sounds in recordings though

I'll be recording my entry next week, probably submitting it around Thursday if all goes to plan.

Cool. There is always the possibility of extending the deadline but we will consider whether that is necessary closer to the end of the draw.

My brother is considering getting the UK vinyls of "That's the Way" and "Tarantula" to add to the best cover song portion of the contest for prizes. Do you think this will help encourage people to submit? There is currently no Zeitgeist vinyl to buy.

TBH, I dont think adding more prizes will make much of a difference, I think if people want to enter they'll enter.

Maybe (if they're bands) add links (or top friends) to there band page on the Act IV myspace.

Every band likes abit of promotion

My entrys nearly finished, I've just got the solo and the vocals left to record (which I'll almost certainly finished tonight) then all I'll have left to do is mixing/eqing etc

I'll probably be submitting my entry over the weekend if all goes to plan.

Just to let you know, we have decided to extend the deadline to February 7th, 2008, about two weeks or so longer than the original deadline.

Also, it's official. For the best cover song portion, we have added two vinyls as mentioned above.

It's the best we can do unless someone has something really cool that they want to donate for the contest.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to send a message to the community letting you know that my contest entry for the Zeitgeist contest no longer contains those annoying "digital static" noises in the pre-choruses. I'm not sure what happened in the first place to cause this, but the fact is, it is fixed!

Please give my song another chance if the above static turned you off in any way. I know that, since you are Pumpkins fans, that quality is very important to you. It's important to me, too.

Thanks for your support!

Just a reminder that you are not allowed to submit covers of Zeitgeist era songs that have only been played live. However, I guess technically you could submit covers of songs off of American Gothic, considering that those 4 songs are packaged on iTunes in a 'deluxe edition' of Zeitgeist

Deadline approaching, Even More Prizes 7 Months, 1 Week ago
REMINDER: The deadline is approaching fast for the contest. Less than 2 weeks left-February 7th, 2008. Is there any people on here that have not yet submitted that are currently finishing up their submissions???

EVEN MORE PRIZES:
Over the weekend, an anonymous donor offered two new prizes for us to add to the contest. They are not ultra rare but they are greatly appreciated and add some more depth to the packages available for the winners of the draw and best cover song portion respectively. There is obviously some b-side overlap, but these prizes are good for all things SP, especially, and you don't have to buy them off eBay or at your local shop :P

Here is a quick run down of the prizes now available, with special attention to the new additions.

For the random drawing:
1) Zeitgeist (Album of the Year Edition)-special silver cover with bonus tracks and bonus DVD.
2) Ghost Children/Friends and Enemies (AKA Ghost Children 2)
SP fan tribute charity compilation (organized by Act IV in benefit of Make-A-Wish)
3) Tarantula CD Single ***NEWLY ADDED PRIZE***

For the 'best cover song' portion:
1) Zeitgeist (Album of the Year Edition)-special silver cover with bonus tracks and bonus DVD.
2) Tarantula 7" Vinyl Single.
3) That's The Way (My Love Is) 7" Vinyl Single.
4) Zeitgeist Special Edition with 76-page Book ***NEWLY ADDED PRIZE***

Vidooch, if you are reading this, I can't respond to you unless you send me a friend request. You are blocking music pages from adding you and you only allow people on your friends list to message you back, so basically I am stuck in trying to contact you through myspace.

Re:Zeitgeist Contest (More Prizes, Deadline Soon!) 6 Months, 4 Weeks ago
I would like to congratulate Somaziro (and the Netphoria All-Stars) for winning the random draw! Somaziro will receive the silver Zeitgeist, the Tarantula CD single, and a copy of Ghost Children 2. Remember, this is a random drawing, so it was not based on the quality of the cover.

The way I conducted the draw is this. I assigned everyone a number according to when they submitted their entry (Somaziro's "Ma Belle" was the first entry, and Rao's "That's the Way" was the 24th entry). Then wrote each number down in 48 point font in a word document· Since there was 24 entries, I numbered them from 01 to 24, rather than assigning their names. Then I added multiples of the people who did extra, such as post bulletins. One guy even had 18 bulletins that he posted (so he had 19 chances to win), while a couple of others had 2 additional entries (making them have 3 chances to win-one had posted 2 bulletins, while the other bought GC2 and posted a bulletin). I cut them up into squares, and put them into a small saucepan, covered it with an opaque lid, and shook it probably about 100 times lol.

As mentioned in the rules, if you posted bulletins regarding the contest and Ghost Children 2, you would have had to contact me at the Act IV myspace with a link to the bulletins to get credit for those additional entries.

STILL THE VOTING STAGE TO GO:
The voting stage of the contest commences on February 14th, so please take the time to thoughtfully listen to and absorb all the covers. Then come February 14-21, you will be able to make an informed decision on what you feel is the 'best cover song' for the Zeitgeist contest. Please try to vote for what you deem the best cover song, rather than simply supporting your friend's entry .

Also, if you are an artist, please post bulletins calling people's attention to the fact that voting is open to all SP fans (please indicate that only your Pumpkins fans friends should vote in good conscience). After all, only SP fans can truly appreciate covers of Pumpkins tracks

Just reminding people that they can still vote. It's best to listen to all the covers before you come to a decision on what the best cover is. There is probably some you will really like, and other ones not so much. Which ones you like and don't are up to personal preference. I am not saying you have to listen to the entire songs, but give them a fair chance before you hit the stop button. If your ears are bleeding or you are cringing after two minutes into a given song, you probably aren't liking the song

Re:Zeitgeist Contest (More Prizes, Deadline Soon!) 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
What can I do guys? People voted, and that was the result. If you don't like the result than take it up with the 105 people who voted for Phil :P. Somaziro's cover won the draw, so at least that should be something for you. "Ma Belle" was in 4th place if memory serves for the best cover portion.

Would you guys be open to future contests? If we do another one, we will learn from the experience and people's concerns.

One idea I had was that if we had a large pool of entries, that we would have a selection committee (ala Act IV and Ghost Children 2) vote to narrow now the list. Say if there were 25 entries, the selection committee members would vote it down to 5 entries, and then open it up to public voting. Some people have suggested just having a panel of judges period.

Hopefully we could somehow get someone from SP.com to be on the committee, and maybe donate something like tickets to one of the era shows (if they occur) and then have the covers center around that era.

If you have ideas or if you want us to just not too any contests ever again, let us know!
