Some preliminary sketches and snapshots of the Smashing Pumpkins boxed set (1996). The concept (Billy Corgan's idea) was based on the boxes teenagers used to keep their 45 RPM singles in back in the 50s and 60s. The boxed set included 5 CDs and 44 page book.

Bram over at blamo found some more information on these. Apparently a test/prototype was made of the SP* design.
it was on ebay a couple of years ago. according to the seller, billy left this box, sample bag and letter in the backstage after a show. (the real tafh box is in the pictures, but has nothing to do with this story.)
i don't know who won this item. never heard about it since.
it's cool to see the sp* logo on frank olinsky's blog now. it proves that this alternate box is not a fake.
