Practically from first listen to Zeitgeist, I've been saying that I have a feeling the next album is really going to be something special. Zeit was the band re-discovering itself and getting back into a groove and it came out pretty good. Now that they're back in full force, I bet the next one is going to be amazing.

I went back and listened to the AOL session heavy metal machine again on my way into work today and you're right Geek NZ....absolutely amazing. That's the best piece of work they've done since they came back. The band is so tight, and Billy's singing is spot on.

I hope the next album will be a bit more calm and silent than Zeitgeist...that would be sweet!
No need for more acoustic stuff, but those genious synthesizer and guitar experiments like in the time around Adore ("The end is the beginning", "Pug" & "Eye".
And I'd really appreciate less (over-)production and old school singing!

Pumpkins have a LOT of hard rocking songs, but it's the softer ones you have to watch for.

it should be a good mix between soft and hard. not like MCIS - i love MCIS but they put so much songs on it - maybe it'll be a very calm album. i don't expect a masterpiece.

i guess the worst thing we do is compare the next album to something they already did. and remember billy and his words... he won't copy himself. never. so it'll be a big surprise - good or bad.

I reckon a team of Butch Vig and Flood would bring them back to their best ... they are both able to draw out the best in any band and they've worked with the pumpkins before. A Gish/MCIS/American Gothic would sound amazing.

Totally agree with the less production thing and maybe if billy did a bit less of everything in the studio and let the band work as a team they could discover a new creative force. I find having to record many tracks yourself ultimately causes over-production...

I agree. MACHINA is a good album, but its over production lets it down a tad. Sludging synths in every song doesn't really work for me. Unless the songs are called "Stand Inside Your Love" or "Age of Innocence"
