The little vignettes they made for Vieuphoria were quirky and bizarre, but had their own charm. But that being said, I think people would have disliked a video for one of the songs if it was set to D'arcy playing with tea cups, and Billy making a fake chainsaw noise lol

i also think billy tries to handle the things how they are today. he's impressed by myspace and the way you can show music to thousands of people. that's why he did that superchrist thing.
of course older pumpkins fans are dillusionated because he never did something like this. and it feels cheap, yeah. that's right.
i guess he lost his anger and sadness he had earlier in his life. he was a twen back then at siamese dream and mellon collie. now he's in the middle of a midlife crisis (you're right, trillian)...
very true, he doesn't seem to have that anger or sadness. probably is a midlife crisis
Maybe he's happy.
maybe. i think with a past he had he won't ever be happy like "today is the greatest day". even that phrase has its sarcastic sense in it.
and btw: do happy people make good music?

In my experience, depression tends to generate the best music, the cure, joy division, etc

Haha, the question of our time.
It all depends on your interpretation of "good" and "happy."
I'd start with The Boy Least Likely To. "Twee" to the max, but very very happy. And most importantly, very good!
It's kind of a bummer that people (especially a great majority in the media) consider happy music "twee." That's a backhanded compliment, saying it makes you merry, but is brainless enjoyment.
I also think there's a difference between "happy" and "self-deluded."

VERY ironic you've got that Jimmy and the sunshine quote in your signature.
I'm terribly sorry you feel that way. If I'm a chump, so be it. Reality is what YOU make it. And knowing that, I'm very happy and realistic.
Pessimism kills.

First thought: Autumn Nocturne, not a typical Pumpkins song but its a favorite of mine, wish it was longer.
From my view a happy person can make a good song about a memory but not about the present happiness. When its about the present it seems overdone and cheesey. But if you're lamenting or feeling nostalgia of an earlier time, tends to work out great.
for the topic at hand: I liked the song but not the video. The camera man was high on something.
P.S. Haven't posted in a long time but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

Haha, i am a living, walking contradiction.
There is nothing wrong with pessimism, having said that, i wouldnt consider myself pessimistic, simply realistic

i think you have to specify it a bit more:
do happy people make good music? sorry, it's the wrong question. yeah, happy people make good music - but as everyone knows, nobody is JUST happy. there is always fear and doubt in us - even when we're happy.
so yeah, happy people make good music because they can show us how they feel when they're not happy.
i don't say that happy music is crap or boring. people are easy touchable with sensible, sad songs than with happy songs. what lasts longer in your head? a melody where somesone sings how happy he is or a songs which describes the intimate dark thoughts of someone.
we find ourselves easier in such situations like loss, love lorn and stuff like that.
oh well, whatever. nevermind. i'll stay optimistic :-)

Billy needs to come back to the real world from this crazy vacation he's been on since the band reunited. He's been making only decent music over the last couple years, I figured he'd be back in Pumpkins form by now.
