Summer '08 9 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Recently Billy said in that Billboard article that they were going to tour the U.S. again this summer. When do you think they will announce dates? I hope soon because I am reaaalllyyy anxious to go see them again! Hopefully they play smaller venues this tour.

I hope thats what they're doing now; writing some new material in between their european and australian tours - obviously not a new album but some more zeitgeist songs maybe...?

From a fan in Sweden that got to chat with the band in the airport.
He also talked about the current setlist, that it was the first time they actually have a set that they designed to appeal to both hardcore fans and the casual fans who want the hits. Anyway, he said that the Gish tour will be for the hardcore fans, smaller shows, more expensive tickets, so the casual fans wont be there... there will be about 20 shows in us / europe combined, so it will be only like London, Paris and something else in Europe. This will be late in the year or possibly early next year.

I figure touring is just part of the song-writing process, as far as the Pumpkins are concerned.

Meh - do I want a bigger, cheaper show with casual fans or a smaller, more expensive show with die-hard fans? That's a good question. Generally, though, I agree with the consensus: No tour! New album! If they're going to be playing only small, expensive venues then I probably won't be able to see them, anyways.

The only problem with the whole smaller venues more expensive shows is that scalpers will still get the tickets and sell them for much more... I HATE SCALPERS!!!

More expensive shows?? It was £35 to see them in Manchester earlier in the year! Some bands play small venues for £10.
I love the Pumpkins, but they're a bit money-hungry these days. Oh well.

yes! although i was eager to hear new music from SP i wish billy hadnt rushed it, and gave us a few more good songs, we got Tarantula, BTL, and i might consider neverlost and TTW

but two good songs and 2 mediocre songs aint gonna cut it next time billy

im afraid to see what people post in response to this

The upsetting thing is that Billy DIDN'T rush the Zeitgeist material. It took him nearly 2 years to write those songs (post - or perhaps even during - The Future Embrace). In that same timeframe a decade-plus ago, he created Mellon Collie, and Machina 1 and 2. The disparity in quality (lyrically, vocally, aesthetically) is evident.

I absolutely don't mind that Billy has become a DIFFERENT songwriter (I wouldn't want a rehash of "old Pumpkins." It would be asinine of me to think there'd ever be another MCIS.) I DO mind that he's become a mediocre writer though. I'm with ya on this one, Teej.

I think another album like MCIS would be awesome.

This alleged disparity in quality isn't nearly as evident to everyone. In the very least, it isn't to me.

I'll spare you my hot air and say that, with songs such as The Rose March and Stellar, Billy has done some of the best songwriting of his career. Every musician has their hits and misses. This may simply be a matter of taste, but be grateful that Billy has significantly more of the former.

I won't disagree with you there. But why the fork were those relegated to b-side status???

Ma Belle, Stellar, and Zeitgeist should have been on the album.
