I don't think there are really any poorly written songs. Although, Pitchfork said that "Bullet With Buttefly Wings" has crappy lyrics. I don't know what's their problem. I think they have something against the Pumpkins. They were questioning whether or not the Pumpkins are deemed worthy of a Greatest Hits album. I don't know what they're talking about. The Pumpkins will probably be on Classic Rock stations sometime in the future and go down as one of the best bands in history. At least that's my prediction.
Here're the quotes from the Pitchfork articles:
"'Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.' It's angst at its arena-rocking worst. And it only gets more embarrassing as the tracks roll by. Into the middle of the third track, Billy Corgan's drunk on his angstful glory, barfing up lines like, 'God is empty, just like me.'"

Those are 2 of my favorite tracks from Mellon Collie, "Zero" and "Bullet With Butterfly Wings".
The reviewer had the nerve to entitle the article:
Smashing Pumpkins Cash In on Greatest Hits Craze- They Had Great Ones?
"While Billy Corgan's days of wanging chung with the Smashing Pumpkins have come to an end, his days of making money and feeding his ego off them are not. So it goes that the Smashing Pumpkins are prepped to release their first greatest hits collection this fall on Virgin, composed entierly of tracks from 1993's
Siamese Dream. Okay, so the second part isn't entirely true; the band (read "Billy"

has yet to figure out which tracks will go in the hits package. But it is this unbiased journalist's opinion that he would do well to avoid anything Corgan recorded with a bald head or while wearing a black smock."

What a jerk. Billy had a shaved head for Adore, but Adore is excellent. What's his problem?
