I was just thinking abou how when a song is written for or about a specific person it often becomes much more personal and powerful and gives a whole new meaning to it when you listen... and was thinking if we could compile a list of all the songs that Billy has written to/for people.

I'll start us off... I think Muzzle was written for his wife.

[Also, I once heard that Shame was written for/about Jimmy leaving. Not too sure on that one, but listen to it again and think about it......]

well, i am listing to it now, and i think maybe that it is written about her, but i think it is more about his experiance with that love, and comming to terms with the relashinship (sp?)ending? maybe? just a thought.

well i could see shame being written for jimmy now that you say that. quiet was written to his parents i believe, and was this time written for the rest of the band about breaking up?

This is what the Siva's song list says about This Time. I've also heard that Try, Try, Try was about James too.

This time is a sweet, sad goodbye from the band off Machina. The song is meant as a farewell to the fans.

What I've always wondered was who Ava Adore and XYU are about, if anybody.

Ava Adore is about a swedish woman (a whore???) called Ava; for some reasons Billy hated her (i think i red that in the Rolling Stone).
And XYU is (hopefully) some kind of sexual fantasy within Virgin (what a joke) symbolism and some Quotes from Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. But what about this Mary in the song ???

Muzzle was written about his then wife (billy mentioned so on several occasions…he even mentioned it during a show on the Machina tour). But then again Billy did say that most of the songs written on SD and MCIS were about his wife so there are probably too many to name…and it certainly sounds like MCIS did deal mostly with the troubles that they were having. His confessions mentioned that Blank Page was also written about his divorce. Stand Inside Your Love, Czarina, and most likely several more were for Yelena. For Martha of course was for his mother. He’s obviously written songs about Courtney and any other girl that he’s been with. We’ll never really know the inspirations for all his songs, but i get what you're saying.

Starla was written for a girl that Billy met in Dallas but her true name was Darla ...

the starla thing was mentioned in the "confessions" blog i do believe. but i think it was just the name, not really the whole song.

the last song wasnt written for his dad but billy senior did play the solo, i think that has some of the same merit?

Do you suppose some of Zeitgeist is about Courtney? He moved in with her about that time. I wonder who Ma Belle and songs like that are about.

Well I doubt that all his songs have a specific person in mind. Many are probably sbout certain feelings or even fictional characters, but there are some that are known to be about specific people and i think weve come up with quite a good list

I think Glynis was written for someone in another band who had an illness (was it AIDS?)...I think the band might have been red red meat.
