GoTV Networks’ Altitude’s Possum also interviewed Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin while they were at Bain Capital’s Guitar Center’s Hollywood’s RockWalk, here’s a sample:


Possum: Is the band the way it is now, is it intact, the same one you used on last tour, is it gonna be…you gonna use this band for the future, or you might change things up?

Billy Corgan: I think we’re looking at it as sort of a project-to-project thing. We no longer feel the need to sort of present, like, “This is the band.” Even, like, when Melissa auf der Maur was in the group, uh, in 2000, we sort of felt the need to sort of say, “She’s with the group.” I don’t think we feel the need to do that anymore. I think, um, if we feel like we need to get ten more people in to do ten different things, I think we’re going to start doing that. More of a collective mentality, or a duo with a collective, or a collective duo?

P: You mean like a Queens of the Stone Age situation, where Josh brings in certain players, maybe for each record?

BC: Yeah, I think that’s a good comparison. Because I think, you know, no matter what, there’s really only one version of the band that makes sense that way, and that’s the four original people. So without that, um, trying to recreate that in any way really on a certain level doesn’t really work, because you’re always on some level kind of comparing experiences. So I think you just have to go towards a different direction.

This makes a little more sense to what he said in another interview about a new Pumpkins album with new Pumpkins.

Yeah makes you wonder if they are on the way out. When I first saw the reference to making another album w/ the "New Pumpkins," I was wondering if that meant Jeff, Ginger, and Lisa might make a cameo. I guess not.

Kinda looks like most of those first few photos were stolen from Wikipedia.

Well, who knows, maybe Jeff, Ginger and Lisa will be part of the dozen extra Pumpkins onstage.

This is very interesting, to see what the future could hold for Pumpkin's music, and how it is expressed...

Just a thought before I click "submit", wasn't the dozen extras idea happening during the Adore era in some way, when Jimmy was out of the band?

i liked the interview, gives a little more insight.

For the record, in the other interview you guys are mis-interpreting what he said.

he said "new pumpkins" not "THE new pumpkins"....meaning new music, not new people.

We're not misinterpreting, we're speculating which is the whole point here. Quote from the other article:

...probably put out a new Pumpkins single with new Pumpkins in the fall...
I know that's probably not what he meant, but who knows.

he just confirmed the single for the fall in that other interview... and so will we be seeing an adore lineup with a ton of people on stage then?

well, its because before he was talking about releasing old demos from the original pumpkins and then he talks about his plans for the new-revived pumpkins. Theyv made this distinction a few times. Theres the old pumpkins - 88-00 and the new pumpkins 07-forever.

Well this doesn't seem to different than the Adore tour. There were so many musicians during that tour, and it made all the difference. Now, just imagine all of those other musicians, but with Jimmy too! Sounds great to me!

I'm excited to see how this works out. And, I'm sure he'll keep Jeff and Ginger, if not just in the view of spending so much time "oiling them up". I don't imagine he would want to find others to teach the whole backlog of SP material to, like he practically already has with the current band.

i'm glad he is though.

Woohoo, can't wait for the dorkish looking, balding, crazy percussionists/drummers really rockin' out on his egg shaker.

Maybe it will be like the Taratula video with a ton of random people poking about w/ instruments behind Billy.
