so many people say nirvana is better, but i think the pumpkins arer better people, performers, and writers!

i love both, though i think billy corgan is more talented with guitars than kurt was. i also think kurt had more of a un-original voice were as billy had a voice that the music industry hadnt really ever heard or probably ever will hear. ive found its easier to get sp performances and live songs as opposed to nirvana (obviously cos tsp were later on in the decade)
i think tsp songs are more catchy and varying in sound. my favorite nirvana songs are:
smells like team spirit, about a girl, polly and where did you sleep last night. i think the poll results will show tsp with a higher percentage simply because it is pumpkins.net. youll find if you ask this on a nirvana site the results will be quite different.

just because your fav band is nirvana, doesnt mean you cant go to a smashing pumpkins fansite, sorry if it was a stupid question, but most of the people i know like nirvana a ton more than SP, sorry again.

I find that to be completely untrue. Maybe where you are, but not where I am. Sure, Nirvana was great, but look who lasted longer and who brought more to the fans. Not that I don't like Nirvana (I do like them) but I prefer SP because, like Stumbleine said, Billy's voice was totally more orginal and will always be that way, where as Kurt's voice sounds like other people's voice. Could I name a band? Not at the moment but I've heard a band that sounds like Nirvana but isn't Nirvana at all. I'm not saying Nirvana is not as good as SP (you can make that decision yourself) but I have found more satisfaction from SP than any other band.

And as far as I know, this wasn't a competition between Nirvana fans and SP fans. Because you are at a SP site, so who do you think is going to win?!?!

Hi Teej. You are silly. Yes, silly! Why on earth would you come to a Pumpkins site and claim Nirvana to be the greater, more dominant band? Silly! Why even bother comparing the two?! I, being one who grew up in the midst of the wonderful goings on that was the '90's musical surge, will say that these two groups (brace yourself) co-existed! Yeah, for real. Even after Kurts demise, when the Nirvana momentum train kept rolling, the Pumpkins were never in Nirvana's shadow, and vice versa. So, go back to the drawing board in your quest for world domination. Love both bands for who they were, not who they competed with. Oh, I have two song recommendations for you:

Smashing Pumpkins: An Ode to No One

I of course love SP more, but Nirvana is actually pretty close for me. I agree that Billy has a more unique voice than Kurt's no matter what, but Kurt's voice would probably seem a little more unique today had Nirvana not had millions of rip-off bands, with lead-singers trying to emulate him. A lot of Nirvana has a rougher quality than SP does, so sometimes if I'm in the mood I will listen to them since they offer a lot that the Pumpkins don't, but I still do like the Pumpkins better.

How can any one compare these two bands? Plus, how can anyone say Kurt Cobain didn't have an original voice? I haven't heard anyone who could scream quite the same, and the overall emotive quality it contained is rare to most singers out there as well. This is not to say that Billy Corgan doesn't have a unique voice, that goes without question.....but damn, Kurt Cobain sounds like other singers? Who?
