i didn't even see that. i just saw the smells thing.

people only know singles really for the most part. its usually only the more hardcore fans who know all of the b-sides.

that's true. Singles are the catchiest songs and that's why they're good for radio.

I shall try my best to get this derailed thread back on track.

I think epitome, that you're wrong about people still not knowing the songs from singles.

The difference between single songs and non-single songs is that songs released as singles get played WAY more than non-single songs.

That's the point of singles, you see.

HAHA! Thanks Geek. I was trying to do that in my last post but was lacking. *grin*

But I still stick by what I said early in the thread.

Maybe, I don't listen to the radio. Still doesn't help. If people don't like the song, they don't like the song. Don't see that it helps to play songs that half the audience don't like.

But if SP are releasing all their songs as singles then they'll all be catchy pop/rock songs. And if they aren't then they probably won't do very well so won't be played for long and will be quickly forgotten. We're getting back to my point at the start now I think.

Personally, I've never been to see a band live that I don't own all the albums by. Why people go to see a live show for a band they know a handful of songs by seems bizarre to me - and that a band would try and cater to those people rather than their actual fans. But I can't really add anything else about this, so people who agree, cool, people who don't, cool.

you bring up a good point about the SP's future single releases epitome. i'm still confident that Billy is in it more for the music and personal expression though. so i hope he won't start churning out catchy pop songs only. he has always hated that though, so will see i guess.

What makes you think that because a song isn't a catchy pop/rock song that it won't be a popular single?

There have been plenty of songs that arn't pop/rock songs that have been successful or well-known.

Look at Auidioslave, they're hardly an overplayed/catchy pop-rock band, but I know pretty much all of their singles.

i just think on the whole catchy pop singles are bigger sellers than other stuff. sure there are some exception, but on the whole it seems to be the catchy pop stuff that gets more airplay.

It's the stupid way of the world these days. I'm sure I could get a lot of crap for saying this, but in my opinion, most people's taste in music sucks these days. Just the whole direction of the general music industry... rap, r&b, pop... I'm fine that some people enjoy it and that it's on the radio and all that, but it seems like pop and r&b have taken over the world, leaving me to ask:

WHEN WILL IT END?

I have disagree with you zerohero.

Only the "I'm sure I could get a lot of crap for saying this" part though

NOBODY likes music of today.

No, just think about it, I haven't got ANY albums by Audioslave, I don't have ANY singles, they don't even get played a hell of a lot, and yet I somehow know seven out of eleven of their singles (I checked on Wikipedia and YouTube)

yeah, i think we all pretty much think todays music is crap here, which is why we all choose to remain in the 90s with our music loves for the most part.

I think that despite our best efforts to decipher what Billy meant by what he has been saying, at the end of it all, after it is all said and done, it will be far from our speculations. Perhaps it's not as drastic as we all think it is? Or, perhaps it is! Who really knows?

I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Yep, totally agree. But chart music usually has been crap for the most part. Some music in the 90s was great, but (in England at least) the stuff that made the top 40 was mostly crap, with the occasional good song in there.

Well I guess when I said I'll "get crap" for that comment, I guess I meant if I said that outside of a forum like this. I know you all are in general agreement with me and my music tastes. But if I would talk to one of my friends, they'd be "gung-ho" about all these punk or pop-rock bands that are on the radio. I don't go there. At all. haha
