i suppose so but she has had more to do with the original members *in the smashing pumpkins era* than any other bass player. also she has already played with them. if darcy cant be in the band i would want melissa to be next.

As far as live performances, I've always thought Melissa had a much better stage presence than D'Arcy.

Melissa was never a true member...just a touring member. As far as her "Pumpkin-ness" she's simply a Pumpkin associate (like Matt Walker).

matt walker was only there out of nescesity, i think they could have done without a "new" bass player, but i think she brough something else to the band, i dont realy see that matt ever did.

that was worded badly but oh well

New pumpkins will suck harder than machina. And they will never be the same without that crack whore Darcy and James. Billy obviously knew the pumpkins were about to end when he hired MAdM.

i can reply to that with only one picture.

if its at least billy jimmy and melissa im happy. james wont ever go back and hell would freeze over before darcy did.

Well then you don't be happy. Melissa's not in. Welcome Eric Avery.

no way! i think i will kill myself! why wouldnt he get melissa in?

Haven't you heard that Eric Avery, former bassist of Jane's Addiction, Garbage, Alanis Morissette, is going to be the new bassist? I don't think it's as much not letting Melissa in as opposed to Melissa busy working with her new record.

I <3 Melissa. I would've loved to see Melissa come back, but it's not happening so it seems. I'm a huge Melissa fan, loved her debut, and loved what she brought to the Pumpkins. Certain songs, like Zero and BWBW, performed during the Machina era were great cause of Melissa's bass intros IMHO.

"Melissa's" bass intros were D'arcy's parts put earlier in the songs in a lower key. Don't call them Melissa's if they're not.

I guess that didn't come out too clear, so let me re-phrase that then. I prefer the way the songs were arranged during the Machina era.

It was never confirmed that he was part of the lineup. As far as we know, he could have just been a session musician.

I just checked the source that I used for that information, and an update was made:
Maybe I assumed too much when I implied Eric was now a full-fledged member of the Pumpkins. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

So I guess we'll have to wait and see for this one too :P

Isn't she kind of a true Pumpkins member? Didn't she record with teh band for a couple of songs on Machina II? I could be wrong, though...

I am not sure what she actually recorded with them, but Billy made it clear at one point that Melissa, or any other fill-ins, were not "members" and that the only "members" the Pumpkins ever had were him, James, Jimmy, and D'Arcy.

I still like her though!

She recorded one song with them and that was it. (Rock On) The rest was either D'arcy or when she left, James.

Untitled is all him!

Only if they seriously COULD NOT get D'arcy as much as they tried (which I don't feel was very hard based upon any information that's available at the moment) then I'd be fine with Melissa coming back. But as far as I can tell she's still recording her album, so chances are she won't be coming back. Btw, Eric Avery is not confirmed and IMO he's not exceptional like so many believe him to be.

I really believe though that the only way they could have gotten D'arcy back in is if James is in. I doubt she'd come back in without him there to back her up.

I hadn't thought of that, but you're probably right. Here's hoping...

I'm not a bass player, but I've seen him live and I consider him pretty good. And when it comes down to it, how good is D'arcy?

Average, like most bass players in the world...but she made the most of her ability and that's why I appreciate her contribution to SP's music.

Re: band line up 2 Years, 4 Months ago
I could be wrong but I was sure that Billy recorded bass for songs after D'Arcy left (if he did it when she was a member of the band, why not continue when she wasn't?) And in the video for Untitled, he can be seen playing the bassline. But as I said, I could be wrong.

And I consider Eric Avery to be quite good, better than Melissa or D'Arcy. I'd rather have D'Arcy or Melissa return though.

Actually, it was James who did what D'arcy wasn't there to do after she left. I've said this many times before. He did Untitled and I believe, Age of Innocence.

He also did his own bass on Believe, and I think he did a good deal of his own bass work for his solo album.

Judging by his work on Untitled, I'd say he'
