I just read it and I must say I am feeling like a big rock hit the bottom of my stomach. I want my Gish box set. Does this affect the Gish tour too? If it does I will be bummed, that was going to be a awesome show.

Where'd you pull the Metro DVD from? I don't think Virgin is holding it hostage. I wouldn't think they would have any kind of copyright hold over the performance of live music. If that was true, no band could ever do a cover song without paying royalties. The actual recorded piece of music that appears on the album is the only claim Virgin has. Unless negotiated otherwise.

Speaking of holding footage hostage; in an unrelated lawsuit, Billy is suing filmmaker Lester Cohan for allegedly holding footage shot during 2003-2005. Apparently he shot several recording sessions and live performances, of which Billy claims unsatisfactory. This is the same guy that did the footage for the Mary Star of the Sea DVD.

Billy Corgan, lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins, has sued a Gurnee filmmaker because he is unhappy with the work the man produced. The singer also claims the filmmaker refuses to turn over all of the footage he shot unless he receives more money.

Corgan is seeking more than $100,000 in damages from Lester Cohn of Pure DV Productions, according to the suit filed July 22 in Lake County.

The singer said he paid Cohn to videotape some of his concerts and studio sessions from 2003 through at least 2005. At the time Corgan was performing as a solo act and with other musicians, according to his lawyer Marc Silver of Barnes & Thornburg.

Corgan planned to use the footage to create works in different media, Silver said. But Cohn allegedly has provided only a portion of the footage, which Corgan said in the suit "was completely unsatisfactory and not completed in a professional, workmanlike manner in accordance with the standards of a music filmmaker."

Corgan said in the suit that Cohn misrepresented his filmmaking expertise and does not deserve the money he was paid. The singer also would like the rest of the footage, which he charged Cohn is holding hostage.

"Mr. Corgan is trying to obtain what's rightfully his in a format that was promised," Silver said.

Cohn declined to comment.

Billy seems to be getting a little lawsuit-happy these days. Why now? Why not the years between Zwan and his solo album, or that album and Zeitgeist?

I just always thought that was the main reason for Billy not coming out with the dvd. That there was some form of tie to Virgin concerning that specific show.

if they don't release the gish boxset i will be absolutely pissed off. and i could see virgin having the metro dvd in a vault somewhere. (some of us will have to james bond on virgin and get that dvd and the boxset if it isn't released. haha)

Funnily enough i can actually see that happening!!!

I don't think Billy is necessarily sue happy, but rather just that there happen to be a number of cases that have come up recently.

I've never been too fond of the idea of law suits, but I think that this is at least understandable.

I just... don't get lawsuits/suing etc.

Billy is hardly lawsuit happy, he has nothing to do with starting up this latest curmudgeon.

Anyway to get this back on topic, I would be the biggest shame if the band can't release it due to the outcome of this. Because imagine it, it just wouldn't be the Gish box set ... it would be everything pre-2000 ... think about it. Everything. No Towers of Rabble ... nooooo :P
