Zeitgeist in another nine years time. 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago

This just got me thinking...
Back in the day, when Adore was released, nearly everyone thought it was a disappointing piece of crap. Fans of Gish, SD and MCIS felt betrayed and confused about this direction.
These days, a lot of fans think that Zeitgeist is a disappointingl piece of crap, Fans of Gish, SD and MCIS feel betrayed and confused about this direction.
Adore turned ten years old recently. Now, nearly every self-respecting Pumpkins fan really enjoys that album. Do you think that Zeitgeist will perhaps be much more universally appreciated in another nine years time?
It's possible.

Great question!
I always feel that if something is before its time it won't be accepted fully. I mean how long until they stopped snickering at the people that tried to prove the world was round? Right? Now almost everyone is on the bandwagon *grin*.
I think you hit the nail on the head with what you said.
Here is something for all of those dreamers that progress the world:
A blessing for the dreamers of this life,
for those persons who imagine new possibilities,
who long for what others cannot perceive,
who spin dreams of wonder and majesty in their minds.
Defend them from ridicule and harsh criticism,
from self-doubt and lack of faith in their dreams,
and from abandonment of this call to make things new.
Grant that from their dreams
may come forth blessings for humankind
to enrich the quality of life
and the wonderment of us all.

To be fair, Adore had so much heart and emotion in it that it was destined for greatness. Sad to say, but Zeitgeist did not have much, if any, emotion behind it and was merely a way for Billy to get back into the mainstream. What I'm trying to say is that Adore was true to Billy and his life at the time. Zeitgeist just seemed like the pumpkins attempt at a generic rock album. I believe in nine years time, Zeitgeist will be looked as one of Billys hit or miss records, and I believe will be accepted by most fans of the pumpkins, but will only be seen as an album like Re-Load was to Metallica.
I did enjoy Zeitgeist... by the way, but felt that Billy was playing it safe with that album.... and what are the pumpkins without taking musical risks?

it will be interesting. adore had a lot of emotional ties to people while zeitgeist is a rocking album. I think zeitgeist will get a lot more praise than it has so far as time goes on but that's difficult to say.

Because of it's total lack of true emotion and honesty, Zeitgeist will soon be forgotten if the follow up will have the Pumpkins-quality, missing since the release of Judas O, once again.
In the future, we'll hear the one or another kickass-tune from Zeitgeist on shows, but the album itsself will be overlooked.
And I don't like the compare with Adore, because Adore IS a Smashing Pumpkins Album

thats kind of how i feel Don. Zeitgeist has some rockin tracks, but it doesn't have the same emotion as other albums. and it is weird to compare it to Adore which is a real gem.

Yeah; I dont think it will be like Adore. I think The reason Adore was overlooked is because it was so "out there" in the sense that most didnt like it because it was such a new sound, so it took a while for people to get used to it and appreciate it. Adore's my favourite album but I only liker 3 tracks when I first got it. But Zeitgeist is just pure rock that we've all seen before and so there's not much else to "find" in the music after a few listens, if that makes sense. Its not really ahead or that different to the music of the times and so I dont think it will ever recieve the mass appreciation like Adore. It gave up all its secrets too quickly.

Hmm...
I think ZEITGEIST had plenty of emotion, just not the same kind of emotion of heart break or pain. It had a real urgency about it.

Seeming that Billy is already claiming that Zeitgeist was purposely a "Rock 101" record, I really don't think there's going to be a paradigm shift in how fans perceive the album. It just isn't as classic or memorable as Adore.
